I think 5 mm is very minor. However, my doctor told me my lower jaw will be advanced 5mm (BSSO), will people notice that something is different with my face? Will I look more handsome after such a minor advancement?

You will look more handsome. It seems minor but humans can detect differences down to 1mm as our brains are fine tuned for facial proportions. 5mm is actually quite a bit. If you look at celebrity look-alikes, their facial features vary from the celebrities they look like by much less than 5mm. When you look close enough, you can tell who is who because of this variance.

The main purpose of my surgery was to correct a-symmetry and vertical maxillary excess, but my lower jaw was advanced by about 3mm at the same time. I wasn't really expecting it to make any difference, and it hasn't from the front, but it made a far bigger difference to my profile (for the better) than I imagined it would. It's not as dramatic as the other changes to my face, but it's still something people have noticed without having been told exactly what operation I had done.
