10 weeks till brace day

#1 Post by Marsh »

Hey all,

First of all I'm Marsh, a 19 year old aussie guy whose getting braces. I'm going for Ceramic Uppers and Metal lowers. I'm getting braces so that my teeth can contact each other better at the back. My bite is lop-sided, so that only my right back wisdom tooth + molar touch. My left side doesn't touch at all. I also have crowding.

My situation isn't THAT bad (I'd just prefer to get it sorted out now to have nice healthy teeth for my lifetime), and my orthodontist said no extractions were necessary. He said treatment time should be 16 months, which would be fantastic as I'd get them off for my 21st. No biggie if I don't quite reach that deadline though. I'm hoping I could be surprised with a shorter treatment time i.e 14/15 months, but not expecting it as per say.

I was thinking about Invisalign, but that won't sort out the problems in the back of my mouth (well maybe it would if i went through years and years of it, but i'd muchhhhh prefer a year and a few months in braces). I was also considering Linguals, but really since braces will only be on for 1 year and 4 months, as well as the discomfort and price tag- I didn't think it was worth it.

So basically hello, wish me luck, and good luck to you as well!

Hi Marsh i have just got my braces im 28 WHAT a SHOCK but i think i worked myself upinto a frenzy, my ortho was very honest with me and told me from day 1 that invsaline was not an option and it is only good for very small movements despite what some dentists think. he said that it has a lot of limitations and he said that there will be no magic fix to replace the need for metal braces. dont worry i feel ur urgency.

over the period of a few months im gradually having more and more metal attached to my teeth i go back in 3 weeks for more and i get so nervous before each visit. i had to wait 4 weeks until i got my bottom braces first that time seemed to take forever.

what is the date you are getting ur's? what state are you in? im in QLD how much are you getting charged?

Wishing you luck, as asked. :) I think you'll be glad you took care of it now and get to enjoy your teeth the way you like them for that much longer.
