I had LeFort I Osteotomy done on Dec 16, 2010...I was sooo happy & excited to get this done!
My braces came of on May 2, 2011 ....the day I waited soo anxiously for..
& I initially was not pleased at all with my new smile.. but I was so relieved that I reached the end of such a long journey, I stayed optimistic.
Now over a month after getting them off I have to face it. I have an overbite now!
My surgeon ( who has lots of experience & impressive credentials) brought my top jaw forward 3mm and 2mm to the left or something (?)...my case involved very little movement compared to most cases I've seen. Because of that I can see why it could have been easy for him to overdo it maybe?
I'm not the only one who thinks my top jaw is too dominant now!
HERE'S MY QUESTION:
It has been almost 6 months since my surgery. I look & feel fully healed (except the numbness in my teeth) but I have read that you will not see the final result of the surgery until a year later.
-Was there a difference in your face at 6 months post op compared to a year post op?
In other words,
-How much changes in your face after 6 months post op?????
-Is my face likely to change more in the coming months? Or should I just get used to this overbite?
Please tell me my new overbite may become less dominant as the healing process continues!!
Thanks for all your help!!

I'm sorry you're not happy with your results. I can't answer your questions because I haven't completed my surgery yet, but I just looked at your videos last weekend and even left a comment, so I remember you clearly.
I thought you looked amazing in the video about your final results, but now that you point out your upper jaw, I can see why you would think it's too strong in comparison to your before videos. I still think the results are good, but I hope you find answers to your questions and eventually the results that you want.

Re: Completed LeFort I Osteotomy
i'm getting a lefort done in around a year or less, so this is super interesting to me
in my opinion you look fantastic. im slightly worried about how the lefort will change my face but after seeing your results and many others it is definitely for the better (as long as you have an experienced surgeon, i suppose!)
your upper jaw looks wonderful. overbites are defined (to my knowledge) based on the position of your top and bottom first premolars relative to one another, not your top/bottom incisors (front teeth)
i dont think it looks too prominent, it's certainly more prominent than before but imo that's an attractive trait
i kinda want my surgery over with now too! i need minor movement as well, i think only 3mm forward.

Hey Erin,
Great videos, I think without braces you look really really good.
How big is your overbite? When you mean overbite do you mean your teeth are aligned that far off? Or that your top jaw just seems that much more dominant? It can't be the latter in my opinion because your jaw looks fine.
I think the best course of action is to talk to your orthodontist, who could adjust your jaw the slightest, and probably fix it via elastics/other means.
