What's IPR, by the way?
Thanks, schar!
IPR is interproximal reduction where they file the edges of the teeth to reshape them and make space for them to move. If you look at the third photo I posted, the central lower gap was created by IPR. All the other front teeth were also reshaped from what was a triangular shape in the first picture to a straighter edge so they fit together better.
Wow! Those are great teeth and such a quick turnaround time!
My ortho says 12-18 months but he says he hopes to complete treatment "much, much quicker than that"
I hope he means 11 months!!
A-MAZ-NING!! What a gorgeous smile you have now, i hope you use it every chance you get!
Did your ortho take any before or after photos? One of the things that finally sold me on getting braces was when i was shown some before and after photos of someone very similar teeth and what an amazing smile they had in only 11 months. After that i couldn't wait i was so inspired.

Thanks WebDevGirl
Yes, my ortho did take before and after photos of my teeth. I didn’t get to see any before I started my treatment though. I should have done, but it was one of those things I forgot to ask for at my initial consultation! I didn’t think a good result was possible that’s the main reason I took so long getting braced. I hadn’t looked at this site before, but if I had done, I would have been much better informed.
You have absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous teeth! So incredibly straight and white, I am truly jealous and only hope to achieve the same results.
I'm currently 2 months into my ceramic braces, and at 21, I'd really love them off ASAP.
Just a question into your elastic wear which drew attention, you said that you tripled your wear with three elastics instead onf 1 one each side? Was this your initiative in elastic wear, or did your orthodontist prescribe such wear?
I was given elastics from day 1 to correct a class III underbite, and I've been thinking about doubling, or looping over my elastics twice to maybe speed up treatment. I have voiced my concerns to my orthodontist about them not doing anything in so far as they do not hurt or don't seem extremely taught, but he said they don't need to hurt to work.
I was wondering if you took it upon yourself to add more elastics to speed up treatment, as I'd love to have my braces off in 11 months, being prescribed 12-18 months.
Once again, gorgeous smile. I hope you use it every possible moment you can.
Hey Tooth Fairy, thank you.
I decided myself to double then triple up my elastics as they seemed really weak and as I was wearing them only at night they didn’t seem effective. I couldn’t even feel them. I told my orthodontist afterwards and she said it was fine. She gave me stronger bands as well.
I had elastics to close my bite not to correct an under/over bite. I only wore them at night to clamp my mouth tight shut. It may not be a good thing to have too much force in your situation all day so do ask again if they can give you slightly stronger bands rather than double up.
You’re at such an early stage so I wouldn’t worry too much if things seem slow now. It was 3 or 4 months in until I really noticed a difference. You’ll get there and be very happy with the result.
Ditto the others - fantastic results! Thank you so much for sharing. How great that treatment was so quick. I'm glad you shared the treatment information, as I have crowding issues and am not getting extractions.
