Adjustment times - 4 weeks or 6-8 weeks?

#1 Post by browniejo »

Hi All,

I saw an orthodontist for a consultation who said she adjusts damon braces every 4 weeks. However, another orthodontist said he recommends 6-8 weeks for the same braces. I've read 6-8 weeks as being the norm. I don't know whether every 4 weeks is a bit fast and whether that might me harmful in anyway? Does anyone have their braces adjusted every 4 weeks?

Jo

The majority of my adjustment times are usually every 6 weeks but I have also had adjustments at 4, 5, 7, and 8 weeks.

I feel like my adjustments are so far apart - every 10-12 weeks.

It might depend on where you are in your braces journey?

I heard it's shorter time periods towards the end.. not sure if that's the norm though. Mine are 6-8 weeks apart..

In the beginning my adjustments were 8 weeks apart, but about 1 year in I started going every 6 weeks. Althogh I know people who get there braces adjusted every 4 weeks, but they are almost complete...

My first adjustment was about 6 weeks after getting braced, and since then, I'm told "4-6 weeks", but I always go back every 4 weeks so I can get my ligs changed. They usually look pretty awful by then.

I have Damon braces, and I go in for my 1st adjustment next week. By then, I will have had braces for almost 3 months!
After that, from what I understand, it will be about every 6-8 wks.

My appointments have been every 4 weeks, but now halfway there we are starting every 3 weeks. Will be moving in less than a year and he wants to keep everything "active". Exicted. Haven't had pain issues after adjustments for 3 months or so, just slight soreness where my diet doesn't have to be so limited.

In the beggining i had every 4 weeks, and now it's around 5-6 weeks. I think it also realy depends on how fast your teeth are moving.

Hi browniejo

My first appt was 6 weeks after i had my braces put on then when i went back he said things were moving too fast so then my ortho said 4 weeks. at my last appt he said he was putting the brakes on for 4 weeks and now my appts are every 4 weeks.

most of us know why we cant have our teeth move fast! one would think it's a good thing but aparantly not. for anyone who doesnt know im happy to post why my ortho said this.

It depends on the wires they use and what the treatment goals are. The wires tend to expand the rear of the arches out, so the longer they're in the wider the arch gets. At least that is what was told to me, and why I wore my 2nd wire only one week!
