Newbie Awaiting for Braces

#1 Post by soldiergirl »

Hello All,

I am a 32 year old awaiting to get my braces put on next week. I'm very happy to have found this site. I am concerned about something. I keep wondering if once I'm done with treatment, will the space between my upper lip and nose flatten to the point that it will look funny. I have an overbite that I want fixed. Other than that I am looking forward to my braces journey and hopefully getting insight from all of you.

Hey SG--

That's a really good question that I never even thought of!! One of my reasons for having braces is for a very large overjet...but I think we would have heard a lot of complaints if that space was an issue--and in ALL of my obsessive searching regarding braces, that was never mentioned once. We pay a lot of $$$ to get a better look, and I think that the ortho is very aware of how to make that area aesthetically appealing also....it's all part of the package--they even go for a better symmetry from the end of the nose in relation to the chin. I'm not going to worry about it anyway...

soldiergirl, I've read that our lips and even our faces can change somewhat but I don't think I read that anyone was unhappy with the result. I wouldn't worry about it...I'm sure you'll have a beautiful smile when it's all over with and I don't think the (possible) changes to your lips would be drastic.

Thank you both for your replies. I guess I'm not too worried...as long as these teeth are fixed.

One thing I will say is while wearing braces your lips look a little bit fuller...YAY for that right?

And if your lips are already plump, does that mean that you will look like you got punched in the kisser?
