Hey Everyone!

#1 Post by onyxbeauty1988 »

Hey Guys!

My name is Sheila and i'm new to the board (this is my first post yay! lol). I recently got Damon Braces put on and while searching for information on braces I came across this site. I had braces as a child (i'm 22 now) and didn't wear my retainer (I know, I know) so here I am again. I'm a full time Youtube partner and I have started vlogging about my life with braces as an adult and I think that it is so awesome that there are people on forums, video sites and blogs talking about braces. It makes the whole process so much more--- dare I say fun? lol Well i'll stop my rambling for now. I look forward to chatting with you all!

*Hugs*,
Sheila ❤

Hi Sheila,

How has your experience been so far with the Damon Braces? Would love to hear...I am scheduled for placement on Monday the 8th but still have yet to decide whether or not to go with the Damon brackets or full ceramic. Like you, I am so glad to have found this site!

Hey!

So far it's been okay. I had A LOT of pain the first week and currently when I bite down on my front teeth they still hurt as well. It's getting better though. I don't remember experiencing this much discomfort the first time around. The oral gel stuff they gave me in my care package didn't help and Motrin didn't do much either. I would say if you do have a lot of pain (you may not) just wait it out. I guess that's pretty much all you can do. It's not like you're going to go back and have them yank them off the next day lol

Now i'm just kinda obsessed with brushing my teeth. I mean I always did before for now I brush at least 6 times a day. Eating, especially when out at a restaurant, is kinda odd. I feel like when i'm finished my braces are full of food. Yuck. I mean it's hard enough trying to be cute with braces but trying to be cute with braces filled with a 3 course meal? lol

Oh one other thing! Eat BEFORE you go. I made the mistake of thinking I could eat afterwards and I could hardly drink soup.

I did an entire walk through of my first day with braces. You can watch it by searching youtube for "onyxbeauty1988 braces" . Good luck with your braces. :)

I am looking up your youtube video right now! I am interested to know about the Damon braces as I am getting them at the end of the month. I have made a few posts on here and other boards about them and have encountered some quite negative reactions from other people, mostly implying that I'm a "dummy" for believing the crap my ortho told me about them.

An honest opinion from someone who actually has the braces would be very appreciated!

Hi Sheila,

I checked out your youtube video and thought it was really cool. I know how you felt after the pain hit and couldn't eat anything. I've only had my braces for 4 days and I'm still struggling to eat but I know it'll get better. Keep on posting videos and I will def. watch. Good Luck

Lexi :)

Oh one other thing! Eat BEFORE you go.

This is a VERY good point. Should be a rule for all people heading to have their braces on.
My appt was early in the morning before work, so all I had was a cup of coffee (my usual breakfast), hoping to stop by a sandwich shop on my way to work. Well... you know what happened, right? Glad to know I am not alone!

P.S. To make my post fair, I have to add that now - 7 weeks later - I can eat almost everything I want without discomfort, and I have never had anything broken in my braces. But for the first two weeks, it was HELL :yuck:
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.
