No pain...normal?

#1 Post by TnC »

I've had my top braces on since Thursday morning and have no pain? Is this normal? I've read so many posts about how bad braces hurt but I've experienced no pain or discomfort. My teeth are only slightly tender if I push on them (about a 1.5 on a 1-10 scale). Is this normal? Are my braces not "working" yet? Am I just lucky?

I can eat pretty easily just using caution not to break a bracket off.

Thanks in advance. So far braces haven't been what I was expecting.

I agree with ArchWired28 - enjoy it while it lasts! I didn't have a whole lot of pain during my first week, either. You may be one of the lucky (few) ones who doesn't experience any pain or discomfort, at all. But don't be surprised if it hits you out of the blue, especially after an adjustment. However, it's nothing a little ibuprofen won't cure. :D

Congrats!!

The only discomfort I experienced was the soreness and tight feeling, there was actually no pain. I guess it depends on the person and pain tolerance. Anyway, congrats on getting braces, enjoy the pain-free feeling! I keep getting told that after the first adjustment it's going to hurt but I'm going to wait and find out. I ate pretty easily after they put it on.

Just enjoy it.

I noticed that most people are commenting on the first adjustment being quite tough - i didnt find that, my worse adjustment was the time before last - i have had my braces for 9 months now. I think it was just because i had some IPR done and went up a wire strength top and bottom where before it was only one or the other or neither.

Dont worry take this time to get used to the braces, you'll probably have them for a while yet.

I didn't have any pain with spacers (twice) or being braced at all...(only with "pokeys" and twice with elastics--discomfort).
No pain to complain a whole lot about for about 3 months--my 1st adjustment--ok--SO THIS IS WHAT EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT!!! :yikes:

But it only lasted about 2 days, and I am beginning to be very comfortable with braces being a part of my life--that being said--I am really looking forward to debonding day!! (In about 21 months  )

I experience anxiety because I had no pain and worried that the ortho made an error. I could only keep thinking about if there was no pain then there could be no gain (I would be wasting time). It turns out that things are working fine. My ortho said that movement is better when it is gradual. So I've only had minor pain a couple times and usually just for a day and I do have gain...movement is good.

Same here... when I first got my braces it felt tight and for the next couple days my teeth just felt loose. The pain I felt most were from the canker sores my cheeks and inner lips developed. The sores made it really uncomfortable for me to eat anything due to all the movement my mouth made when I ate. Wax was my bestfriend for the first week or 2. HEHE!

Lucky you!

I think the amount of pain experienced may depend on many factors, but I have found the uppers to be much more painful than the lowers so far. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that my bottom teeth were overlapping each other so couldn't move as quickly, whereas the top which aren't overlapping anywhere were subjected to the full force of the wire straight away.. I don't know though its just a theory.
The pain from having my uppers put on yesterday kept me awake a lot of the night :(

Lucky! I just got my braces like 8 days ago and for those first 5 days, I had soreness and a little pain. I was also really sad because I couldn't chew anything because it hurt so bad. lol.

Congrats on having no pain though, that's awesome! :)

Still no pain. I enjoyed some Lays chips and salsa a little while ago with no problems. I can't explain why I'm not sore but I'm going to keep enjoying it. I still haven't had any issues with them wearing my lips raw either. I'm regretting not getting braces sooner.
