Cracked lips that won't heal - any ideas?

#1 Post by sibilla »

I've tried every kind of lip balm, medicated creams and vaseline. Cracks will heal for a few days then open up again in the corner of my mouth... has anyone else got the same problem?

Hiya, I had a split in my lip that I had the same problem with. Had it for weeks when someone suggested coldsore cream (Zovirax here in aus) used it for two days and was back to normal. I recommend. :D

Another fantastic things for cracks or splits in your lips is Aquaphor. My daughter bites her lip a lot, and we'll put this stuff on before bed and her lip is healed in the morning.

i use blistex lipbalm, you could always try paw paw ointemnt thursday island plantation brand its mericle stuff for a range of ailments you can google it and buy over the internet, i sometimes sit on the couch one just rub lipbalm around and around and around, then i open my mouth wide and do the same to the corners of my mouth about 10 times a day,

i mostly had this problem the day after the cheek retractor torture device was used i found that was my culprit.

also be mindful of cooling/heating systems and cars espically due to the dry air in confined spaces and wind.

hope that helps

If all else fails I would try lanolin cream, such as Lansinoh. It works wonders on cracked breastfeeding nipples! Hope that's not too gross in idea, but the stuff is magic.

If someone think this is gross, consider that at least 90% of all ingredients are the same in all OTC creams and lip balms. I hope that realizing this will make this great idea less gross
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

wow! thanks for all the replies - I'll certainly give them a go.

btw - I didn't think the idea of using something that soothes cracked nipples gross - if it can soothe them, it can soothe anything!

thanks again to everyone who posted - truly appreciated

I use this as my night lip balm. It is great for this. Lanolin is also anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. We use it on cuts and scrapes in our house all the time.
