Wisdom teeth removal costs? NEW ZEALAND or anywhere else!

I'm 27 and have just had my braces removed. I need 2 wisdom teeth out otherwise I risk screwing up all the treatment I've had (and its been A LOT!!). Both are impacted, 1 needs an oral surgeon. I'm betting this is gonna cost heaps. Wonder if I could take my xrays in from debanding day to help save money at the consultation with the surgeon? Desperate to save money in any way I can!.... Wow i always worried about my wisdom teeth and if they'd stuff things up down the track. I should be happy being brace free but the thought of this is kinda ruining it. Please let me know what you guys paid. Thanks!

Well, New Zealand is probably very different from the US if we compare prices for teeth removal. In the US/Florida, as far as I had experienced, removal of one impacted molar will cost around $200-300 full price. But dental insurances will usually cover 50-90%. There are also low cost discount dental plans that reduce the fee to $80-150 per tooth.
But the fees vary a lot even within the US. You should do a search in your area and also think about other options line insurance etc. Good luck!

I live in Dunedin. I rung up and got an estimate the other day from a private dentist of $180 for non-surgical and $350 for surgical. Is there a dental school in Auckland??

Na, i think its just Otago that has a dental school. I've asked around and it seems like other people have paid around $1500 per tooth at oral surgeons. Auckland is expensive (for everything, I'm not just talking teeth!). Anyway, I'll book an appointment and find out for sure. Another question just out of curiosity. Someone at work was asking me why didn't they make me get them pulled out before I got my last braces on, and I remember once wondering the same thing. I mean they were probably impacted back then too, coz i was 25ish. ???? I dont know, is this the normal order of doing things or what?

Wow! Glad I don't live in Auckland, I thought it was expensive here!! I think they wait for them to come through before they pull them, one of mine is impacted but the ortho doesn't seem to be worried about it at the moment

Actually na, I was wrong, its not quite that bad i think more like $1000 or under per tooth. Still!!! Starting to wish I hadn't bought the new laptop!

Do you have to get them all out? Or are only some impacted?

My ortho wants two out. First she was thinking four then changed her mind to just the bottom ones. I think the top two have come through ok. Gets a bit confusing tryn to count the ones i can see in the mirror, remembering how many most adults have before extractions etc, to work it out!
Both bottom ones are impacted and one looks kinda bad in the xray. I'll try posting the xray pic on here when I can.
