Has anyone got tad's or is getting them. Got ????

#1 Post by Huggypillow »

So in a few weeks on i may be having tad's placed ( temporary anchorage devices) is there anyone on the board who has them what was your experience?
at my last appointment my ortho said he is going to give my bottom back molars a few weeks to see if there was any movement. ( poss due to the face that my extraction spacers have been there for longer than 12 months actually about 2years now)

He put a power chain across the bottom but there been no movement.

Is there anyone on the board with them? what was your experience?
i am aware that treatment for my back bottom cant progress without tad's.

My ortho will also include 1 wisdom tooth as a regular molar as it has been checked and is all good to go with the treatment (the 3 other wisdom teeth were extracted about 8 years ago) and boy am i happy i did that when i had the chance.

Any replies or feedback would be greatfully appreciated.

thanks from the huggy

I have not had them (unfortunately LOL  ) but I have read a lot about TADS and have seen TONS of beautiful reaults. It is unbelievable how much TADs can do, and without them, many cases would have required surgery. I have read that this is minimally invasive and almost not painful. So, I would say - good for you that you are getting them. I am sure you can make really good progress with them!
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.

I got them today. They are being used to move my upper molars back so in turn there will be space to move the front teeth back without the need for extractions. They are definitely aching at the moment!

Thanks "archwired28" and "hazbubbles"

Thanks for they replies i have seen what you tube videos are there, but like everyone here it is so much better to throw the questions over to the A/W community.

Hazy bubbles can i ask you a few more questions? how lond did the proceedure take to put them in?

How do they attach the screws to the brackets?

Did you feel any pain during the proceedure?

any other info on how you found it would be great. You said that you are feeling them now or are they just annoying you?

I've had mine since last October. They put mine in while I was under for impacted wisdom tooth removal so no I didn't feel it. it took a couple months for mine to act right as my bone is soft where they needed them placed. But once they were all set it's been great. OK well not great I have a love hate relationship with them. I love them because my treatment time has been reduced from an estimated 2.5 to 3 years to less than 18 months. I HATE them because they are uncomfortable. But it's so worth it.

They activated mine at first by tying power chains from the TAD to a premolar bracket. After my teeth moved back a bit they made a wire spring that they tied from the TAD to a premolar bracket. They never take these off as it was a major pain in the buttocks to get them attached the first time so we leave them alone. I have 4 TADs btw and had 4 springs.

Milinea, may I ask what it is they are trying to correct? Crowiding/overbite/overjet/bilmax protrusion? Just curious.

Thanks everyone for your replies,

I am very nervous about having it done, i have seen some pictures on the internet and it looks somewhat uncomfortable with having the attachments from the brackets to the tad's.

I have had trouble adjusting to the top braces because the brackets on the molars already have given me a had week, and wax well what can i say.

I think the treatment plan is to engage the molars and slide them forward. I dont know if my ortho is going to slide one molar either side at a time or if he will engage both molars and slide them together, also with my wisdom tooth he is including that as well and he said he will place a bracket on that later. Flossing that tooth when it has a bracket will be a nightmare.

at the moment i have a power chain on the bottom and it is connected to all lower front teeth and also on the first molar, The other molars either side have brackets also with tubes and the wire running through. He put a heavier wire on the bottom as to help not bend or distort the wire running through the gaps until my next appointment.

At the moment i have had no movement with the power chain and i know that without the tad's the molars wont move,

It seems that although tad's have been around for a few years they are being used more now due to the latest advancements in design and technology they are becomming common for certain treatments but not widly discussed.

I still have 2 weeks until my next appointment, but i can say i love my waterpick and i will need it more than ever having tad's as well.

I have one TAD located where one of my lower wisdom teeth was (taken out years ago) - my ortho used power chains to connect to a lingual button on my last molar, wrap around the TAD, and then connect to all my lower teeth. The goal was to pull all the lower teeth back and to one side. Installing the TAD was not great - it took three tries over the course of several weeks, but once it was in it is solid as a rock and has never bothered me. Its been in for almost a year and has done awesome things. Good luck!

I have them (3 months now). It was no big deal. Topical anesthetic only, because they are screwed into your bone (no nerves there). I felt no pain during the procedure. The TAD's were immediately loaded with NiTi springs which were only uncomfortable because they kept cathcing on my cheeks. They seemsed to be working okay but the ortho has unloaded them because he wants to intrude the front teeth a bit before continung. Confession: I took a muscle relaxer and 600 mg. of IBubrophen before the Install procedure (muscle relaxer was because I was nervous...it really helped), but I don't think everyone needs to do this...I was feeling wimpy that day.

thanks for all the replies,

so an update as previously discussed i currently have a power chain on the bottom to see if there would be any movement with the molars.

sad to say no movement with the molars they have stayed exactly where they were, but at the front i have noticed the gaps in my front teeth have stated to close.

i still have 2 incisors that havent rotated yet, and im trying to be patient as i have only had bottom braces for almost 4 months and top braces for 3 weeks.

my ortho said that if the power chain didnt move the molars then i will have to have the tad's placed.

im still wondering if they move one molar at a time into place, i still have to have my wisdom tooth bracketed, he said its going to function really well when it comes into place.

still very nervous about the proceedure although the support from my fellow bracees is providing me with lots of comfort.

i guess the thing that is depressing me the most is im coming to the usa to visit friends for christmas for 5 weeks with my husband and i will have enough metal in my mouth to sell a mechanic shop... i love my hubby hes been great support.

I had some put in a couple days ago. Basically when you are numb all you feel is the pressure of the doctor pushing it in. The part that worried me was when he said if they end up hitting the root I have to let them know...and when I asked how I will know all he said was "trust me, you will know."

The gums around the area felt a little sore after the anesthetic wore off....other than that no big deal except the cheek irritation from yet another metal object in your mouth.
