Hi all, 1st post , been reading these boards for a while but registered as I had some questions as I've been thinking about getting braces and Linguacare ones at that for a while.
Can anyone tell me if there are any Ortho's that offer this treatment in UK, preferrably the North of England?
What are the average costs of this treatment and how much more are the Linguacare braces compared to the Ormco ones?
Is there any difference in treatment time between labial & lingual braces?
I have lingual braces only in the top arch (ORMCO's) and I will have labial tooth coloured in my lower in a few months time. I will be paying about £4,000 in total. Of course it depends on how long you need braces for.
My ortho only works with ORMCO's and he charges for linguals twice the price of labial.
I didn't check the price of lingualcare because my ortho is very convenient for me. You have to take into account that you will have appointments every 4-6 weeks and you have to consider how easy you can get there.
For your information I have had my lingual braces for 1 week and it is not that bad. Of course everyone is different. I have no idea if lingualcare is better, everyone says that the brackets are smaller. For me the inconvenience talking is the wire not the brackets. In my case what would help is to have the wire as close as possible to the teeth, I don't know if that is an advantage of lingualcare.
For me the problem with my speech is only certain words, for example MONTHS. To say the word MONTH is OK because you position the tongue at the back of the teeth but if this sound is followed by "S" it is more difficult because you have to move the tongue to the roof of the mouth and the wire is in the middle.
I don't know if other people will share this view but this is my experience with only 1 week of linguals.
I understand your concern because I had the same dilema. In the end I didn't even try to visit an ortho that used lingualcare because my ortho is very close to where I live.
I also have to say that my ortho told me most of his patients are OK with linguals but other people never get used to them. Probably you should check what would happen if you don't get used to them.
Thanks mb you've been very helpful and made some good points . I may try and find a closer Orth that uses Ormco's and I never realised about the wire being the most important factor with speech problems, I just assumed smaller brackets with Lingualcare would make it slightly easier for my tongue and also speaking.
I did once have a removable top brace years ago but never got used to that (talking mainly) but that might be because my mouth is quite small and although not very thick the palette part closed the roof of my mouth down so much but then again I am very self-consious and didn't wear it enough or have faith in it getting better by seeing it out.
I think if they are fixed in my mouth and can't be seen then that will make getting used to them easier but still can't imagine even how much my speech will be affected and just how intruding and big they will feel inside my mouth and to my tongue?

Thanks, I've already contacted the 2 from that list that are within 200 miles but they dont offer this treatment yet. 1 of them thankfully did however tell me about an Ortho that does offers linguals reasonably closeby (even though after speaking to them they only use Ormco's).

Good stuff. Mine is being done by the Doctor himself and not via a lab manufactured device. Sort of like "normal" orthodontics but done with small brackets on the back of the teeth. So he is working in reverse to normal. I'm well pleased with the results so far. It's nearly done in fact after about 6 months. I only had to get the upper "social 6' straightened though.
