Most people seem to do great with this.. many say they don't feel a single thing. I wouldn't worry if I were you. But, there are a few instances there is pain. Just be prepared but honestly, do the online research on this, and everywhere you read, it's not supposed to hurt.

I survived TADs

#32 Post by 50+ »

I did it! I had them done yesterday under local anesthesia. They shot me about 6 times (that was the worst part) then once I was numb, they began. 3 TADs - 2 upper and 1 lower. This is to help bring my back molars forward to close the gaps from previous extractions. I did have a "What on earth am I doing to myself?" moment at the beginning, but was a very good patient and kept still throughout. They set me up for possible IV sedation just in case I started to freak out! But I was ok throughout and very calm. I do have some swelling, but have been icing it all day yesterday and will continue today. I'm on 800mg ibuprofen and Amoxicillin and a rinse. So, if anyone has questions, I'd be happy to respond!

I had 4 TAD's installed yesterday and 1 impacted wisdom tooth extracted. I was not a happy camper and I cried like a baby. I had anesthesia, but it was that twilight stuff so I don't remember the wisdom tooth coming out but I do remember like 2 screws going in and 2 screws having to be redone. It hurt ALOT, one nurse had to keep wiping my face cause I was crying so much. I also remember getting sutures put in though I couldn't feel it.

The day after...

#34 Post by 50+ »

so far so good...very swollen!! Not very much pain though. The most uncomfortable area is inside my cheek. The one on the upper right is very high - so rubs a lot. I'm hoping that when the swelling goes down, it will get better. I really didn't want to lose weight this way!! I'm wondering when I'll be able to eat normal food again!

TADs Update

#35 Post by 50+ »

So far all is going well. I had the TADs loaded and then went on vacation! All went well, except, I advise that you don't go on vacation after an adjustment. I needed to use wax the entire trip (thank God I brought some). I had a wire sticking out that was wrapped around on TAD and it scraped the inside of my cheek! That was the most painful experience I've had to date. Also, with the "extra" wires - food got lodged tighter and didn't come out with a simple swish of water. That meant spending a lot more time in the bathroom brushing! Otherwise, my trip went smoothly and I actually survived braces and TADs on my trip. Still trying to learn how to smile with these things!!

Had 5 mini screws inserted (upper) during surgery around a month ago, and then over a week ago had them took out and two put into different places (upper). Don't know when they will be loaded? When I asked if the surgeon had put them in the wrong place I was told "NO, they were just a little too high!"????????????????????????
Confused now!

Glad to hear that all is going well and that you made it through your vacation with your new TADs & braces!

duh! I think that if they were too high, then they were put in the wrong place!! So sorry that happened to you. I hope they are giving you a partial refund for your trouble. Did you have iv sedation or local?

That was my fear too when the OS was placing them. They seemed like they were in a different place than what I expected. He assured me that he and my ortho talked weekly about my case - so that put my mind to ease and then when my ortho saw me - he said "perfect"!!! what a relief!!

No sedation as I have no feeling at all from a previous lefort 1 osteotomy.
Glad your TADs/BADs are in the right place! Keep me posted on your progress :D

Re: TADS/Microscrews... what's your experience been like?

My TADs are still in place and my gaps are closed. Now my ortho is using rubber bands to help correct my bite. I'm getting closer to the end...1 year to go. I hope it ends up sooner - then I can get my TADs removed! I don't even think about them half the time. They are just there - he's using the top two, but the bottom on is just there not attached to anything. I'm very pleased with the outcome and hope this next year goes by fast - it helps to be older!!

I had the TAD's. Easy time getting them in but not very comfortable while in. I had them for three months, then at the last visit, 3 weeks ago my ortho consulted with another saying "they were working well but now I see there has been no movement since the last visit" (so they worked for month 1 and 2 but not for the 3rd month). The 2 ortho's consulted then agreed to unload them saying, "well, they only really work for 3 months". So they unloaded the TAD's and within the past 3 weeks my teeth have all moved back to the pre-TAD stage...I am sooo disappointed, I feel like I just wasted 3 months (not the first time I've felt this way).
