Hello brace friends,
It appears my cheekbones are more prominent and slightly sunkin in. I had no extractions and had deep overbite. I have not lost any weight.
Will that honestly go away after braces, or is the treatment altering my face permanately?
will face fill back out after braces are taken off? be hones

Try not to worry! There are many posts from people on this forum who are going through the dreaded "thinning' stage of treatment and for most people it seems to resolve its self completely towards the final months.
For me it was bad as I had large extraction gaps and a lip profile that seemed to disappear completely for several months, I even got creases on the sides on my face when I slept as everything started caving in. But a few months ago the gaps fully closed themselves and the orthodontist began to pull everything forward again and it started to look great! Much better than before, I hated the during stages but REALLY love the near finished product and my new neater profile.

Well, my cheeks are a little fuller as is my lips. All of my teeth have been moved "outward" so I guess that's to be expected. No one else really notices the cheeks but they have noticed the lips. I know it's not just the braces pushing my lips out because it didn't show up immediately after I got them, that started happening after a few months.
My story in this forum:
http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... =9&t=38942
Braced: 4/7/2011
Metal Upper & Lower
Sentence: 18-24 months
Removal Date: 9/4/13

I can not speak for everyone else, but my face/cheek bones filled back in after my braces were removed. Also, my big lips went away.

Lindesd, That is encouraging about the face/cheek bones filled in. I got my first comment last Saturday when I met our family friends. They talked as if I wasn't there, saying "Oh wow..she lost so much weight! She used to have a baby face now actually it looks quite mature". I wasn't sure how to take that compliment. I'm 30yrs old, and I don't want a baby face nor a mature face. haha! Anyway, perhaps it will be in the middle when the braces are taken off (although it's been only a month since I began my treatment).
About the lips, I thought that big lips thing will go away after few weeks of wearing braces...once the lips get used to it. I was coming back from school on the bus and saw couple teenagers with braces and their lips looked quite normal. So does it depend on a person or big lips are the norm during treatment?
