Now that I have braces, I'm finding out many people around me used to have braces! They didn't have them when I met them so I never would've known.

Also, I seem to be noticing everyone who has braces now (mostly teenagers). It's like we're in the same club now.

I too look at everyone's teeth now. When I see someone with crooked teeth, I have to refrain from telling them "Hey braces could make your teeth look a lot better". One thing I do notice is a majority of young people "(20's and younger) have beautiful straight teeth. When I was growing up you did not get braces unless your teeth were really bad.

I thought I was crazy or something. Now I am telling my mom that she needs braces too and should be a "brace buddy". I never used to notice them. Now they are the second thing I notice after peoples eyes and eyeglasses. I especially notice peoples teeth in the backwoods areas down south where I go caving. The socioeconomic climate down there is not conducive to good teeth :(

I've had fun a few times when I find a fellow adult with braces and I say, " aren't you a little old for braces"? When they look at me almost incenced and I smile back with like braced grin, thankfully everyone so far has laughed and we'll share a story. I'm sure at some point I'll get someone without a sense of humour and it'll be a bummer.

It's hard not to notice the good and not quite as nice smiles out there.

Since getting braces, teeth are among the first things I notice in people.

Lol, I've also been very observant of others. It's surprising to me how many other people have braces too and I never noticed it before. This weekend alone at the club I saw at least 10 people with braces, it was starting to feel like a new fashion trend or something haha.

I also noticed some people with really nice smiles and sparkly white teeth which makes me a little jealous but I will have a beautiful smile soon too so it's something to look forward to.

I have always been very observant of peoples teeth. I look at them first, almost before anything else. I find my self sometimes thinking that "they should get their teeth fixed". When really- I know NOTHING about their situation, and should not judge others. I guess that is a character flaw of mine. I really need to work on that!
I can at least now think that at least I am doing something for my self, and just worry about me.. and not others..
There! Started working on it already :)

I haven't even commenced treatment and am doing it, although mainly with tv/films. Looking for skeletal issues like maxillary protrusion/retrusion, recessed mandible, upper lip length, gummy smile also.

Definitely, it's the heart that counts. But maybe you will encourage someone else because it can make such a difference in someone's attitude to have a nice smile. Sometimes they just need to know that something is possible to have the courage to try it themselves.

Years ago on active duty I was in charge of an ENT unit in a large Navy hospital, and began to pay more attention to the noses and ears of people I encountered in the street and in social situations, thinking what procedures or combination of procedures would be needed to correct their various anatomical issues. In fact, when I took over the unit the head ENT approached me, staring at my nose, and said, "Hey Commander, I can fix that!" I had it broken a number of times playing football and some other unpleasant encounters when I just could not turn the other cheek. My nose had a definite list; I viewed it as character. I eventually had it repaired by the head ENT and at least now that part of my face is passable.
I guess the point is we all begin to notice things that previously might have escaped our notice.

This is the same with me! I find it really strange, like when I talk to my friends or someone new, my head directly stares at their teeth ahah
