25 and about to get braces.

#1 Post by BlindSight »

Went in today to get braces but the dentist found some issues with my gums so treated me for that and bumped back the appointment 2 weeks. Not looking forward to the expirience but I have multiple teeth that are really crooked and make it almost impossible to floss so looking forward to the results.

I'm just shy of age 49, and I've hated my smile for 35 years. I wish I had gotten braces when I was 25! :)

So, welcome to the bracket club! I think you'll find this site to be very helpful! :D

I'm 25 also and I've had my braces on for almost 3 months now, and I'm so happy I decided to go for it! You will be so excited once you start to notice changes. My teeth look so different already...good luck!

HOLY MOTHERLESS GOATS BATMAN. So for starters wow they are expensive. So I got my uppers on today, they said they have to round them out a bit more before they put the bottoms on because my overbite is so bad id just tear them off. The spacers were pretty bad going in but the worst part was when they were wiring it up she kept stabbing the inside of my cheek with the wire!. Why don't they have like a little plastic tip like on bobby pins they can slide on the end for when they are doing it!? I have been trying to keep the wax on them but ive had it off for awhile now trying to go to sleep and the inside of my lips are hurting really bad. So I decided to try and eat a burger for my first meal...probably not the best idea but I managed. I will try and get them to give me a copy of my pictures next time I go in so I can share them. I am kind of glad its finally happening, its still kind of surreal honestly. People always giggle at me sometimes when I smile a little because usually I just have one tooth that kind of sticks out but other than that I never really hated the way I looked or anything. I would like to think im pretty confident and everything even with my crooked teeth but I am really looking forward to being able to floss and clean them without so much hassle. And I guess it will be nice to be more proud of my smile. I remember being told many years ago id make a good model if I fixed my teeth...I never really took them seriously and just thought both being a model and judging me based on my teeth were really shallow so I tried to not let it bother me but maybe it has hindered some self confidence in some way. Anyways, its almost 4AM and im rambling, hope everyone else is doing well and not in as much pain as I ma :soremouth:

Lol BS!!! You sound like me every time I have an adjustment!! Believe me, it gets better in just a couple of days...
Try pudding, applesauce, oatmeal, jello, ice cream etc. ...

I'm 24 and when I first thought about getting braces I thought that I was way too old. After joining archwired I definitely don't feel that way anymore. Got my braces on Oct. 6th....just hang in there I'm sure they will be off in no time!

I'm 25 and had my braces on for 5 months. So glad I decided to do it!

Eating was the most frustrating thing for me too, but it gets easier, u slowly start getting more confident in eating foods. I ate lots of mashed potato (added creamy sauces etc for some flavour) yoghurt, mousse, ice cream, milk shakes, soup. I also managed to eat soft chicken from red rooster etc then slowly managed to eat chips :P Soft pastas and anything I could 'swallow' with minimal chewing like mincey dishes were great and helped with the hunger :)

Good luck with your journey!

I've had my braces on for almost a year (OMG, how did that happen?!) and still after adjustments sometimes I have to eat soft food for a few days. In fact, I'm clearly going through a serious movement period, because my face hurts like whoa right now.

However! You will notice movement so quickly that you will be amazed, and it will totally be worth it. :)
