Wire around Bracket

#1 Post by TwistedShelby »

Hi, I've just returned from my 2nd adjustment, and noticed the ortho has put wire around one of the brackets (on the tooth next to an extraction) rather than a normal ligature. Has anyone else had this done and why? It looks just like wire and is twisted together

I've had wire ties on several of my front teeth over my treatment. My understanding is that they hold the bracket against the archwire more than a lig can. I usually have a power chain over that.

Thanks for that. Thinking about it I have heard of wire ties. My ortho is so busy, I never get chance to speak to him, he scoots up, puts his hand in my mouth and before I have chance to say anything, he's off seeing another patient!

Hey twistedshelby,

those wire ties are not fun, i had the pleasure of their company for 3 months on all my bottom teeth and they hurt like @#$%^&& they hurt going on and being tied on is quite uncomfortable, especially if the teeth are really crooked.

Mine were and i cant say that id ever stick my hand up for another round which thankfully i dont.

I remember having wire ties and also expanshion springs at the same time, to straighten and pull teeth from behind and also the spring to push teeth apart, again a chapter i hope NEVER to repeat, but it did the job over a few months and now they are much straighter along the bottom.

Well way back in the day, first time in full-bands on all teeth braces, they used wire-ties on all my brackets! We're talking deluxe pain-train, no coloured ligs, no eat well for days after an appointment. Ugh, still remember it vividly. Surely it's only temporary for you!

Keep rockin' the smile!
