I went in for my adjustment today and my orthodontist agrees with me when i asked if my lower teeth were traveling along the archwire in the wrong direction. So she put a spring in between my right lower canine and my lower right central incisor so we can have room for my lower right lateral incisor to come join the party.
Let me just say this: OW!
OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW!!!!!
Springs are NOT fun.
I can't properly close my mouth because my upper teeth will bear down on the spring itself putting more force on my lower teeth.
To anyone else out there with springs, you have my sympathy
I feel your pain! I've had springs since day 1 over my 2 bottom premolars because they're tilted in, so the springs are SLOWLY making space for those teeth. It's been 8 months so far, and some days they still dig into my mouth...I don't think there's any getting used to them completely. However, they were way more painful in the beginning, so I'm sure you'll adjust to them, just like we eventually adjust to every new torture device that our orthos introduce to our mouths!

Oh man 8 months?? This first day was terrible I can't imagine 8 months of them!
Soon, our pain will be over... We just gotta keep the end in mind.
Oh yes, 8 months....and counting....but yes, it will all be worth it so we need to just suck it up! lol Another thing that I try to remember as well is that I've got it pretty easy as far as treatment is concerned (at least as far as I know). I don't need to have surgery, no extractions, so scary extra appliances....so it could be worse! I can deal with the springs until they've done their job Were you given a timeline as to how long it might be there, or just sort of wait and see? (My guess would be wait and see, since that seems to be the timeline that orthos work off of lol)
The springs are pretty awful. I had one for 8 months and I was positive the indent in my gums would never go away. My ortho gave me no notice when he put it on, and the same when it came off. I actually piled wax on it pretty often, especially for bedtime. Sometimes I'd I rub my tongue on it and a taste bud would get snagged, that really hurt.
Time flies though, and before you know it it's coming off. Drink lots of fluids, cause the spring is meaner to dry mouth. And buy a ten pack of wax from Dentakit, you'll need it just for that area. Good Luck

I totally understand! I've had springs since day one as well. One upper and lower. My upper spring is no more, so that's half the battle. It is pretty painful when they first put them in but after a few days, it's not so bad. I have noticed that everytime I get a wire change and a new spring, I'm not even paying attention to what the spring is doing, only the wire because it feels like my teeth are in a vice. So thank you distractionary pain...
It will get better, we just have to deal with it the best we can and keep remembering all the pain is worth it!
Are you talking about coil springs or forsus springs? I was given coil springs in 5 different areas 2 weeks ago and had a hell of a time adjusting. I wasn't told beforehand and of course that was the day I forgot to medicate before the appointment! But I am oh so glad I don't have forsus springs. I don't think I could handle those!

I was not given a timeline at all. It was just like, "Well we need to get this fixed so we can do this with a spring. Here you go, it will take a few days to get used to but Advil and Tylenol will help."

That happens to me all the time! I'm surprised I have any tastebuds LEFT. And I have a ton of wax just waiting to be used...

It's the opposite for me, the spring hurts way more than anything. Except my extractions. The wire is like nothing compared to this.

I actually had to google those to make sure. I have a coil spring. The forsus spring looks terrifying good god!
Mine are also coil springs, the ones that slowly push teeth apart to open up space for teeth to fit in. I'm also going to have to Google the forsus spring. I've heard the term used, but haven't ever seen what it is I don't think....I hope I don't give myself nightmares! lol
Oh goodness....those things are like coil springs times 100!! I'm guessing they're in place of elastics for some people?? Yikes! NOT going to complain about my wimpy coil springs anymore! lol
I only have a coil spring as well. I think if my ortho told me he was going to give me a forsus spring instead of elastics, I would run and hide... No thank you!
