Nervous about debanding?

If you have finished with your orthodontic treatment and are wearing retainers (or will be soon), this is a special place to connect with others in your (enviable) situation. Ask a question or make a comment about life post-braces.

Nervous about debanding?

#1 Post by AmberJadeification »

I'm getting my braces removed after 2 years and 7 months on December 8th. I originally got braces due to a crossbite, not because my teeth were crooked. Anyway, I'm nervous due to some stories I've heard. Some people said that the enamel on their teeth were ruined after debanding, because of the sanding and polishing. Does it hurt? I'm also getting Hawley retainers for both top and bottom. I had my impressions done a couple of weeks ago with my braces on and it was a little uncomfortable.

Hey yeah it hurts worse than getting the braces on after pain. All of my friends said so because I mean they are after all ripping off metal that was cemented to your teeth. But only bad orthodontists ruin the enamel.

If you do a search on You Tube you can find videos which show how braces are taken off. They are not 'ripped off'. I did feel some pressure but not pain.

Mine did NOT feel like they were "ripped off" either. Is there pressure? Is it not the BEST feeling in the world? Well duh, yeah. But it did not feel like my teeth were being torn out of my mouth or anything like that at all. Press against one of your teeth right now a little. That's about how it felt.

Getting impressions taken is uncomfortable for everyone!

Popping brackets off was a breeze for me. The bands, however, were painful to remove! Thought my teeth were going to be pulled out.

I'm supposed to have a final check next month, then debanding in January. I'm a little nervous too. Afraid they will take them off and I won't like how they look. Also afraid I will have 'two-tone' teeth. But I don't want to wear them the rest of my life either. Good luck!
