The price of a new retainer $290?

#1 Post by PursueToTheEnd »

I lost my retainer and he made new impression and made new one and charged $290. He said he tweaked the lower front teeth part a little so it leans a little backward as I requested because of the tooth clashing.

I feel that that's quite expensive.

Is this normal price?

Yeah, that's about right. $250 is more or less the average price.

I don't remember the exact price, but I was told something like 250-300 would be the cost if I lost or, for whatever other reason, needed a new retainer.

Even at $250 it is not a moneymaker in the office. If you divide up your orthodontic payment plan across the number of visits, you will notice that they are worth several hundred dollars each. You also have to factor in the lab fee and the fact that the time is being used to replace a retainer when another patient in treatment could be seen.

Just curious: hawley type or invisible type? But I have heard that the range for a hawley is $200 - $300

Seems fine to me.. Material costs, lab costs, Dr time and fees, their insurance, equipment costs and office overheads. It all adds up!
