Is it ok to have your teeth filed???

I had my lower jaw brought forward two months ago, now when I close my teeth two of my canines meet before any of the other teeth. The ortho (a new one, my usual ortho has gone on maternity leave) has suggested filing one of the teeth down so that all my teeth meet. This sounds detrimental to the health of my teeth and I'm not sure it is a good move.

Has anyone else had a tooth filed down?

hey- i had both upper canines filed in my late teens, im 37 now. I actually requested it because they looked too vampirish at least to me.
you should be ok as long as your ortho is fine with it. my canines have worn a bit (more rounded off) with the years but their health has been perfect (no cavities or chips).

I had my two front teeth filed so they could meet up better and reduce a black triangle. Then, once my braces were off, I had some filing done to my premolar and molars upper and lower on my right side to help fix some minor bite issues. The amount of enamel taken off is minimal. Studies have shown that this procedure does not increase the chance for tooth decay. You may have a bit of sensitivity for awhile, but that usually passes in a few months.

It seems like a very useful procedure but the thought of having my teeth filed gives me the shivers. Like nails on a chalkboard.
