Anyone here had a bad experience/result with jaw surgery?

#1 Post by aussieguy2011 »

Looking for anyone (preferably Australians) who have had bad result or bad experience with orthognathic jaw surgery.

Especially keen to hear of anyone that has taken legal action against a maxillofacial surgeon and what the outcome was.

Feel free to share your story here, or PM me if you preferit to remain private.

Thankyou.

Interesting question. I never think about that. I try to keep focus on the great possibility of no more pain.

Sorry I can't be any help.

I'm an Aussie, but have nothing but good things to say about my jaw surgeon & surgery. If the surgery turned out wrong my surgeon would have re-operated free of charge to get the desired result, so legal action would never be necessary.

My inferior aveloar nerve was cut during my latest surgery and I am having a dimished quality of life because of it. It was not the result of a bad surgeon; rather; I had such a weird anatomy that there is no way they could have predicted it.

It actually hasn't. It's pretty depressing. I am going to try Neurontin. I've written about it at http://www.dentaltransformation.blogspot.com.

Those are very hard to deal if compare to just an overbite or underbite

Be careful, Neurontin can cause serious depression. If you begin to get depressed while taking it, talk to your doctor and consider discontinuing it.

I'm Australian and have had two unsuccessful jaw surgeries. Aesthetically I looked better before both surgeries and I would just like my jaws moved back to their natural position. Apparently I'm the one with the problem though now because I look "fine", just I looked better beforehand, its pretty depressing.

I've also had two surgeries...the first didn't work out, my bite was so bad that the orthodontist said he could not fix with braces only. Also I have permanent numbness on my chin + lips, left cheek. But before you go for surgery you have to sign a paper were you agree that all this can happen during surgery, so I could not take legal action. Since it did not work the first time, I didn't have the courage to let the same surgeon fix it. I looked for another one, which fixed most of the mess, but I still have some issues.

If those surgeons who operated on you both are in melbourne, i'd love to know who they are. I'm getting surgery in October and I'm crossing my fingers it's not my surgeon. You can PM me.
Thanks :)

oh wow, i sometimes feel like this.

I've had two surgeries and honestly i can say I was definitely happy with it at first. But now, 2 years later, i get constant pain on my right side and my bite is always going off. I also felt they didnt consider the aesthetic side as much as I have a long face in the mid section between my nose and lips which, funnily enough, is often commented on alot as being 'odd looking' by people. My surgeons seemed very impatient when i stated these problems and said they could do nothing and they suggested i find another orthodontist. In the end im just dealing with it until the worst may happen as I cant afford to find an orthodontist I have to pay for without the gov assistance.

Just out of curiosity as you guys are from AU, how are you funding your surgeries/ortho treatment? Feel free to PM me.
