I'd guess its easier for them to do the impressions in the normal dental position, but if the patient is having problems they can be done in the seated position instead - probably just makes it a little more awkward for the dentist to see and reach.masonanddixon wrote: It made me wonder why this couldn't have been done from the start?!

When I think back, my Orthos office did my impressions while I was sitting up.
But I have a vivid memory of getting impressions done when I was like 12, and almost choking on the stuff. The dentist just kept telling me I was fine, till he took the crap out and saw that it had slid down the back of my throat. My Orthos stuff wasn't nearly that thin though, I guess consistency makes a difference.
