Late treatment woes, not looking forward to debanding now
I was really looking forward to my braces coming off in 2 months until just recently my teeth were looking great then all of a sudden since they changed the wire last time(one they use to let the teeth settle in) I have had a space open up in the upper region of my two front teeth and the spaces on either side of my front teeth seemed to have gotten way bigger, it just doesn't make sense why this would happen so rapidly and so close to my debanding appointment. Have spoken to my ortho who says there's nothing they can do and that it's the " Black triangle" thing, says that as the teeth are touching at the bottom there's nothing they can do and as an adult it's unlikely that my gums will fill in, I mean sure my teeth were crooked before but I didn't have all this spacing up at the gum line.
Really bummed out right now =(

Here is my smile it's worse after just brushing my smile is awkward anyways right now as the muscles in my face are still tight in places from Jaw surgery also, my right side of my chin is still numb and very tight and awkward from the genioplasty which I regret 100%, can't stop getting build up of spit in my mouth right now either since last wire was put in.
This sucks even though my gums look bad I have been trying to take good care of my teeth and gums, brushing often using my waterpick daily and using mouthwash as well

Those triangles can be filled in. I wouldn't worry.

Looks to me that it is not something that can be fixed by orthodontics. I think there's some bone/gum recession issues may be going on. I would definitely consult with your regular dentist about it. But if I were you, I would not even be worried about the cosmetic part of it. To me, it's not very noticeable and your teeth still look great. What I have noticed though, is it true that you still have a deep bite? Do they plan to take care of it, or are you technically done?
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

My bite feels perfect to me I actually had a gigantic open bite before treatment, I had to have 2 surgeries one to expand my pallette and the other to fix the gigantic open bite, before only my very back molars touched and I had over 12mm open bite, it's amazing how far I've come, but I really hate the look of my gums in relation to my teeth and my gums weren't near as bad as before, maybe I'll get lucky and once the braces come off the gums may grow back a little if not I may need to try and find money for vaneers or get teeth bonded although the gaps are so big on either side of the central incisors that it will look dumb with bonding.
It just frustrates me as the space between the central incisors wasn't there untill after my last appointment, so I don't know how my teeth were perfectly together and now all of a sudden there's a space and I notice everytime I look in the mirror so irritating.

I think what Archwired28 meant was that your upper teeth significantly cover your lower ones (which is what a "deep bite" is). Most people who have that issue get treated so that those teeth are brought up higher. Do you know if there are any plans to fix that?dabrit wrote:My bite feels perfect to me I actually had a gigantic open bite before treatment,

I think it's just the angle I took the picture at, I don't think I have a deep bite, my upper just gently touch the brackets on my lower incisors, it's not the the point where I think I have to worry about it, and I'd much rather have this than what I had before with the gigantic open bite where I couldn't eat or speak properly.

Hi Dabrit
I have the same issue. I developed those black triangles about 6 months in to treatment. I also have been told there is not much they can do because of the angular shape of my teeth. I never had those before braces. I think they may be able to do gum graft surgery. But I will wait till after my braces are off for a while and see how everything settles in.

I have not seen your teeth so I cannot comment about you, but as of the poster, his teeth look just fine in my opinion. Therefore, it is hard for me to understand why spend $$$ and put yourself through another invasive intervention just to fix those triangles. If it were my teeth and my bite felt perfect, I would have been happy. It is still possible that the gums will grow a little as the bite settles down. If not, veneers are always an option; however, one should be careful as this is not reversible and will have to be maintained for life. Again, if it were my teeth, I'd much rather take triangles over the expensive veneers that can come off anytime.Bracer215 wrote: I think they may be able to do gum graft surgery. Yes they have made my mouth look and function much better, it's just that until very recently it was looking like I was going to have a pretty much perfect smile, but now with the triangles I've taken a step back but I guess overall I should be happy. I think my plan will be to whiten my teeth then get bonding to fill in the gaps, and then I'll be set, just waiting for sensation and full mobility to come back to my chin cause it does make me smile awkwardly right now and drives me crazy at times lol.ArchWired28 wrote:Good for you! Urrrggh, just cleaned my teeth and that space between my front teeth, now extends down to about half the length of the front teeth what is going on, I can't help but wonder if part of the teeth chipped under the pressure or something.
And this constant build up of saliva, and spitting when I speak is driving me nuts why the hell is this happening, it wasn't before!!
