Braces Make My lips Huge

#1 Post by BracedSurgeryStudent »

Hey I noticed that when I smile I have big lips with my braces, it's mostly the bottom lip. But when I smile not showing my teeth, it looks like I am definatly hiding something in there. Like if I were one of those people who did not want to show my braces I think it would be pointless as it looks even more rediculous. But I like smiling with my braces but I still seem to ahve that big lower lip. Myoverbite is slowly but surely ceasing to exist.

To me, your lips are not big; in fact they look totally normal and average. My bottom lip is maybe 3x bigger than yours and I am not complaining  It has always been that way of course; I did notice that braces make my lips stick out a little more. This applies to the upper lip mainly. I think it is appealing.
Don't worry, you are just fine. If you want my opinion, you have a balanced proportional face. Your lower jaw may be a little retrusive due to an overbite but braces will help with that I think.

By the way, how is the "mass" that you were having in the lower jaw? Did it disappear?

Hey Archwired28. Thanks :) I always though my braces made my lip jet out a little but now I see its not even that bad. I think it makes people look adorable. ;)

Hey yeah its still here in my jaw kind of painful and sensative to the touch. I been also experiencing some really LOW blood pressure with that. Havent been able to bring it up at the drs office. Should I bring it up at the dentist?

I don't mind the menorah, actually I live in the county with the highest per capita Jewish population in the country.

I read this thread a few times, and do not understand where the part about low blood pressure came from. How low? Why have you not been able to bring it up at the Dr's office? I would definately mention it. I mean, I always have to mention mine because it runs normal at 130/80 depending on time of day and what time I take my meds. My diet is fairly high in sodium, which is important because when on lithium, low sodium can be life threatening. They were very concerned about that when they did my wisdom teeth as it was 150/90 at the time. A little off topic, but the point is that you should mention it to your ortho or dentist.

Yeah, I highly doubt that you ortho or dentist will be interested in figuring out what's going on with your B/P. They will tell you to go to your PCP. That's not their forte.

80's over 60 is certainly on the low end. Are you having symptoms such as lightheadedness, chest pain, sleepiness/lethargy? How small are you, because if you are 92lbs that B/P may not be abnormal for you.

I work in the medical field, but not giving you advice. Just letting you know that you should consult an MD/DO and not a Dentist about your general medical problems.

BTW, my lips are about 3-4 times as big as yours and I love them. I am black though so it's more common for us.

I have 20 to 30 extra pounds to give, but sadly theres no way to donate them. The lowest mine ever was was 110/60 and that was when I was 150# and in very good shape. Are you short? My mom is, and I know hers is kind of low.

my BP is also on the lower side, it is usually 100/60, but coffee brings it up to roughly 120/80. Do you drink coffee? A cup or two of fresh black coffee in the morning should definitely help with low BP. And you can have one after lunch as well. By the way, they say that people with low BP live longer  But sure if you have symptoms, you should discuss this with your family physician or whoever is doing your medical care. Uncontrollably low BP may be dangerous, you can pass out and God forbid it happens while driving.
Sorry to hear about your jaw, I know it is not fun :( Has it mostly started with elastics wear?

I hear you! Every time I donate blood I wish that there was a way to donate pounds :-* I don't have a lot to give, but 10 can definitely go :D

thank you! What part in my signature do you like exactly? I hope not the one that says "17-21" months" :-* Although time surely flies...

Hi Braced .. your lips look absolutely fine to me .I think the important lip thing is to keep a good lip balm handy so they dont get dry and catch on the hooks and brackets ..now THAT hurts .
I notice that klobird has recommended Chapstick which is great and also I found a really great product recently . Dont laugh though , its usually used for nappy rash  but its works fabulously . A makeup artist wrote in to a magazine that it is their makeup secret as an undercoat before applying lipstick  . Its called Bepanthen . I have been using it for a month now and its fantastic .
I am with the others .. definitely consult your medical practitioner about low blood pressure !!!

Why did it even enter your mind to apologise for the Menorah? Be proud, unashamed and not one bit afraid to be Jewish. If anything, the Menorah is the very Jewish symbol we are directed to publicise.
