ceramics and curry/coffee?
i just got ceramic uppers on my teeth with clear ligs & was wondering just how bad does coffee stain them? i normally drink about 1 regular cup a day. has anyone tried drinking it with a straw? i tried to google some photos but not many came up.
what about curry? it's nice and mushy & easy to eat... but the spices. :[
the other options i had were grey & white. does white stain just as easily?

I believe curry is one of the "classic" foods that stain light-colored ligatures; as in, you could have a yellowed smile after a single meal.
I imagine coffee would do so eventually, but not as quickly as tea.
I can't imagine the white would be any better off than the clear.

Curry definitely stains clear ligs a horrendous neon yellow! I usually save it for 1-2 days before my next ortho appt! I am not a daily coffee drinker; however, I have a cup every now and then just rinse w/ water immediately after and then brush (no stains from this thus far).
Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I am very new into braces, has only been a week today for me. I have ceramic uppers and metal lowers with clear ligatures. I drink 2-3 cups of coffee daily with cream and have not noticed any change in the color of the clear ligature. I do brush and/or waterpik often throughout the day and also drink a lot of water especially when drinking coffee or soda. I don't know how well a straw works. My ortho warned me about curry being especially bad for discoloring as well as red wine and tomato based things. I too was offered smoke or gray but decided to start with clear and see how it goes.
Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I always get the opaque ligs and at first I avoided coffee. After a couple of times of drinking coffee without thinking about it I didn't notice any staining. Now I don't worry about it. I usually just swish with water once I'm done and no staining so far.
Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I drink a LOT of coffee and tea, and pasta with tomato-based sauces has become a mainstay in my diet recently (hmmm...wonder why? lol). I noticed that my clear ligs were turning a yellow shade. I tried my electric toothbrush again which I had stopped using because of the pain. I don't think the ligs returned to a pristine clear again but they were a WHOLE lot better.

Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
so i've been drinking coffee with a straw & putting a little more cream in it than normal. ate curry once w/o any staining. (red curry) ate thai also with no immediate staining. (orange sauce) but after i ate the indian leftovers i noticed some slight staining, nothing super noticeable from far away though. i noticed it because i stare close up at my ligs everyday of course. it could be a combo of the thai/curry/coffee over a period of time though.
another person told me oranges stain really bad as well, but i had not hear this? i drink oj everyday, and i can't tell if that's been contributing to the staining or not yet.

Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I learned this the hard way.
Curry definitely does stain them! So does Tea! I have been drinking tea and coffee through a straw and any food that has tomato sauce just cutting it up and chewing it at the back!
So far so good! Usually by the 8th week it gets bad just in time for an adjustment.
It's annoying because it looks like we don't brush our teeth yet we probably do it a lot more than everyone else haha

Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
So far my experience is avoid the curry (its only the turmeric) but coffee/tea are OK. Yes, my ligs don't stay sparkly clear/white for the whole time between visits but it's not noticeable apart from the neon yellow curry stain (saved for couple of days before visits!)

Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I haven't gotten my braces yet but I would hate the idea of giving up coffee to avoid stains. I hope cleaning thoroughly afterward will do the trick.
Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
im a heavy coffee drinker and have ceramic uppers. not a big issue at all for me
Re: ceramics and curry/coffee?
I am 8 weeks into having ceramic uppers and metal lowers with clear ligs. My first adjustment at 4 weeks I didn't really notice staining so opted to go with clear again. It has now been just over 4 weeks with my clear ligs and they are quite stained this time yellow/light brown. I'm considering silver or smoke ligs next week when I have my adjustment but am hesistant since my top teeth aren't that straight yet. It is a pain to worry about staining all the time with the clear though I find. I'm not feeling brave enough to opt for a lot of color yet but may when my teeth are straighter. It really only seems like my 4 top front teeth are stained, the other ligs look fine.
The one difference could be the first 4 weeks I was really good about drinking water and rinsing/brushing often when I drank coffee with cream, no tea. This month I have been more lax about rinsing. Ugh...can't wait to get these changed next week. Suggestions?
