Spacers!!

Spacers!!
I got spacers put in yesterday and oh my god. I am in so much FRAKING pain right now. I feel like I've been punched in the face/ my teeth are being pulled out slowly. Getting my wisdom teeth pulled DID NOT hurt at all compared to this.
Please tell me this goes away. Please tell me everyone feels this much pain with spacers. Please tell me getting braces won't hurt like this. I have to have these for a FRAKING WEEK?? I don't know if I can do this!

Yes, yes, yes...the pain will subside. Take some Advil at regular intervals for a few days (don't wait for the pain to start again) and rinse with lukewarm water often. You are getting a lot of the discomfort out of the way now before the braces go one. I do suggest you stock up on some wax though! Good luck...remember this discomfort means progress toward your ultimate goal!

Thank you so much for your support. I really, really appreciate it so much. I took some motrin right after I posted this and I already feel much better. You are right, I need to keep my ultimate goal in mind. I am trying! I have never felt anything like this before. My teeth feel so much pressure and, before I took motrin, excruciating pain! I am such a baby. Do braces feel like that? A lot of pressure and pain? I am so nervous about having them installed next week.

Re: Spacers!!
The braces discomfort that I experienced was not that bad, and I am no fan of pain! I do advise taking 800mg of motrin or advil an hour or so before you get the braces put on that day, and then take it at regular intervals afterward. I had my bottom braces put on a few months after the top and personally found that bottoms were more uncomfortable at first than uppers. The great news is that it really doesn't take long to get used to them and once you see the improvement in your smile you will be pleased with your decision to get them! Have a lot of soft foods on hand at first and if you're like me you might lose a few pounds. LOL Good luck! You can get through it!

Re: Spacers!!
Many people report that spacers were the worst part of their braces. Certainly they do a lot, and do it quickly; those teeth get forced apart the second the spacers are put in.
Actual braces involve far more gentle forces applied over a much longer time. They don't generally cause the feeling of intense pressure you have now. The pain from braces is a result of inflammation of the tooth attachment system; the actual teeth themselves don't mind so much. And for me, spacers irritated my gums; braces won't do that; they don't touch your gums.

God, I seriously hope this is the worst part of braces. Every stinking tooth in my mouth hurts like hell right now. Thank you for your post, it was very informative, which is exactly what I need right now.

Oh for the love of god..... the PRESSUUREEE.... the painnnnn.... what have I done? It is taking all of my willpower not to pluck these bastards out of my teeth. I can't take more motrin for another 2 hours and I am probably going to kill myself before then. I'm joking, kind of.
Re: Spacers!!
OMG I feel your pain!!! I got spacers Tuesday and still have pain. The worst part is they were so difficult to get in I go back next Tuesday for them to put more in and will have 2 weeks total-ugh! But I know once that's over it won't be bad. I also got my top braces on the same day and they are not as bad. Hang in there!!!

Re: Spacers!!
Honestly, I think the spacers are some of the worse pain. I know it gets better. I have been braced 1 1/2 years now and I hardly notice I have braces. Until I have an adjustment, then there are a few days of pain. But nothing like the spacers. Drinking cold things seems to help me.
Good luck and hang in there.

Re: Spacers!!
Yeah, I seriously doubt the pain from braces can be worse than this. I mean, I can tolerate a lot of different kinds of pain, but this pain is seriously like a kick in the teeth. Maybe braces pain will be the same level as this, but not worse. It's not possible!

Re: Spacers!!
I had my spacers put in at 3.30pm today and so far have only had pain when chewing, even though I only had mashed potatos for dinner. Am I likely to wake up in pain in the morning then?
Re: Spacers!!
Ummm yes. Probably. It didn't hurt the day the were put in, but they hurt like hell the next day. Thankfully, after that day, it got progressively better and today, 5 days later, they don't hurt at all. Make sure you take ibuprofen before bed!
