Do you have a waterpik, sibilla? That makes cleaning really easy.

I do indeed - wouldn't be without it.... I just find the whole process very, very tiresome! The novelty wore off pretty quickly - I'm afraid I haven't got a lot of patience - think I must have got fed up with waiting and left the queue when they were handing it out!

I enjoy using my waterpik. I'll definitely continue to use it after braces. Having them has definitely instilled some good habits. But you know, you don't need to floss every day... especially when you have a waterpik. These people talking about how they have to spend 45 minutes a day on their oral regimen don't really make sense to me. Blast the food out if it gets stuck, brush a few times a day, floss occasionally, that's all it really needs to be, as far as I'm concerned. Don't leave sugar sitting on your teeth for too long. Basically my normal routine as far as mouth care.

One thing I will admit - having a stringy piece of food wrapped around a bracket is frustrating!

Robotteeth- :lol: :lol: :lol: I also agree with your approach to cleaning your teeth. And I too have picked up / relearned / become more concientious about cleaning my teeth since having braces on. I've invested all that money and pain so I'm going to be darn sure I take care of them!

Well put me in the same camp with BracedSurgeryStudent and Robot Teeth!

I actually LOVE having braces again. I hated dealing with retainers, and though I'm disappointed that the lower supposedly permanent bonded retainer failed and resulted in issues a decade-ish later, I'm just much happier with non removable dental stuff! My main nemesis is cilantro, it gets stuck like nothing else!

I'm only three-ish months into this current treatment, but already dread removal down the road to have to deal with stupid retainers. Now how can I drag feet and keep the braces as long as possible. Retainers SUCK! :-)

Smile Y'all!

I will miss my braces like I would miss a kick to the stomach.

As in, not :D

Only had them on for 6 weeks and I don't care for them, but alas....have to do it. I have clear Damons on top and normal Damons on bottom. And those stupid glue things on the molars.

Sometimes I think it makes me look cute and younger, but other times I just think I look silly.

With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning!

Braces.....
How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.
I hate thee with all my might when the wires are feeling tight
For giving me a metal face
I hate thee every day and in every way
I loathe the way you make me lisp.
I hate thee freely, my only respite coming at night;
I hate thee purely, in oh so many ways.
I hate the bite plane and count the days
To freedom from the metal maze
I hate elastics with a passion that runs deep
With my heart, --- I hate thee with the breath and
tears, of all my life! --- and, if my ortho should so choose,
I shall hate thee less in 18 months time!

LOL I know how you feel. I've actually been kicked in the stomach when I was younger. so I can see what you mean. Maybe Ill just miss looking at the braces on my teeth and miss going to my amazingly awesome orthodontist office. I hate cleaning them I hate eating with them. I hate not being able to eat stuff. I hate flossing with them. so yeah :( but at least my orthodontist makes up for it.

I think I will get a waterpik. Is one type better than the others?

@Robot

I would be lost without my waterpick- it is actually kind of fun (in a gross way) to use. What I like to do sometimes is to put a little bit of mouthwash into the appliance and then blast my mouth with it, and do the same thing with the tongue cleaning appliance. Sometimes I think my mouth is cleaner WITH braces as I am neurotic about food getting stuck and then suddenly, I am host to a new pathogen....also cannot rely on gum as a crutch.
