New power chain and wires - OW!

#1 Post by Mauvaise »

Went in for my 3rd adjustment last night. They moved me up to a steel wire ("1625" which I'm assuming is a gauge measurement) and to a "1725" NiTi wire on the bottom. My ortho was also pleased enough with my alignment that he felt it was time to start closing my extraction gaps. Y'all know what that means: power chain from molar to molar, top & bottom.

Um, OW. This is by far my worst pain after an adjustment. There is so much pressure and the slightest touch on my teeth (especially the front) causes some nice aching. Back to soft foods for a bit!
In full braces for 2 years, 3 weeks, 1 day.

So sorry to hear about pain. It is pretty normal. Especially with power chains. Ouch.
Soft food for me too the next few days. I stocked up on yogurt. Yum. :D

But WOW do they ever work! I moved up to a rectangular wire on the bottoms and a power chain on the front four teeth just yesterday to close up a gap that had been created between the front two. It wasn't a large gap granted, not as big as an extraction gap, but it's closed already!!!! I kind of liked the gap, it was a sign of how much my lower teeth have shifted and straigtened from the overcrowded, twisted mess they were before braces.
