Elastics and Overcorrection

#1 Post by Chris »

Is it common to get an overcorrection with elastics and then they have to put the elastics going the opposite way to correct it? I've only had my elastic for a few days and already I feel tremendous movement. I'm afraid of what it will be like waiting 6 weeks till my next appt.

i am wondering about this also.

Hi, I was the proud owner of this configuration :

When I returned to the ortho, she said the front elastic overcorrected my
midline that was off. When it was removed, all overcorrection was lost
very rapidly. I hear orthos often overcorrect because they know they'll
loose some of the correction, so they"ll get want they want. Kinda like
wishing to get 100$, asking for 150$ and as a result getting 110$ and be
happy ...

That's got to be the most fantastic elastics arrangement I've ever seen Clo - respect!

Thanks, Clo for the tips! My goodness, I hope I don't have to have that configeration in my future. Right now the one I have is not too visible. No one notices unless I point it out. But with yours, did you have alot of comments from people or have them staring at your teeth?

How long did you have to wear that configeration?

It is not uncommon for patients to overcorrect with their elastics. Usually, though I just have them discontinue for a month or so and the go to where they should be. Once in a while I will have them wear the elastics in the opposite configuration.

Thanks Katypooh !
Thanks Chris !

I didn't get a lot of comments, but got quite some staring yes.
But after almost 1,5 years of having braces, that doesn't bother me
anymore. Btw, I only had that front elastic for about 6 weeks. But I have
been wearing all sorts of elastic configurations for 1 year up to now. At
this moment I have class 2 elastics combined with boxing elastics. Believe
me, also this combination is quite visible.
