My six month smile braces journey

#1 Post by bellcat »

Hi!

I'm 20 years old, and had my six month braces, top and bottom fitted two days ago.

My teeth were never perfectly straight, but throughout my teens and especially in the past two years, they have gotten much worse and pretty overcrowded in certain areas. This is probably because of my wisdom teeth coming down.

I liked the idea of the six months smiles as they are the most cost effective option for me and I like how they are tooth coloured.
My expected treatment time is nine months because my canines need to be almost fully rotated around! But I don't mind because it will be all worth it in the end!

So far, I have felt little pain, which suprises me. Only really when brushing, biting down on food and the brackets rubbing off my lips!

I use an oral-b electric toothbrush and brush after every meal.

This is a picture of Day 1 of my treatment! I'm excited to see some movement!!!!

I had my first adjustment yesturday morning. The wire and brackets were changed and parts (Front top and bottom two teeth) of the wire were tightened extra strong to get the movement going. It was painful when he was tightening them, it felt like my tooth was going to break off, but other than that, no pain whatsoever. Some people have told me it's really really painful the morning after you get them tightened but I haven't felt anything which is great!

After a month of wearing these I haven't noticed a lot of movement, however I can see some minimal changes. My bottom two are slightly straighting up. My dentist told me I should notice alot of movement in the next month! :D

Hey!

I'm 21 and I had my 6 months braces fitted at around same time as yours;) how are you getting on with it? I was in so much pain for the first week! But not so much due to the teeth pain but the metal wire scratching the inside of my mouth.. Ahh much better now, almost two months and noticed difference! By the way where did you get your braces done if you don't mind me asking?

I didn't have much pain in the first weeks just pain from the brackets rubbing off of the inside of my mouth!! However I went for my month 2 adjustment and I got a much thicker wire on top and bottom and I have felt a lot of pain! Worse than what I felt the first day :P

My teeth have been moving into place slightly. I have noticed a lot of movement in my top and bottom first two. I'll upload pictures soon!!! Do you get your teeth filed in between each adjustment? It's the worst part!!!!

Best of luck with the treatment. Your teeth look pretty good as it is, but, after the treatment, they'll be just amazing. Can't wait to see the results :)

I'm also doing the Six Months Smile but the elastics on my brackets really turned yellowish...fact is the dentist didn't forbid anything from eating/drinking, so I'm having my regular coffee, sometimes a glass of red wine, coke, etc...could this be the reason or am I doing something wrong when cleaning?

Well in my first month with 6 month smiles my elastics got really yellow very quickly and I think it is just because of food and drinks I had. I'd eat tomatoe pasta or lasagna, curry, have a coffee or alchohol( I actually learnt that it doesn't matter what alcochol it is but it really stanes the braces) and I quit smoking after my first month! Well in general I clean my theeth obsessively often now so it might be the reason but now the elastics of my braces get slightly yellowish just by the time I need to visit my orthodontist so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Hi,

At first I avoided tea, coffee and anything tomato based/curry, but now I eat nearly everything, except I avoid red wine and curry. They have stained but not too bad, as long as I give them a good brush they don't look too stained!

Hello.... Im new here and have found reading others journeys with six month smiles very interesting and useful. I had my top six month brace fitted last wednesday, 5 days now and just about getting used to the feeling of it in my mouth! How are you finding the brace now after a few months wear?

Hi.
Into my first week of the six month smile. The rubbing on my gums is still going on thank god for dental wax.
I've been told I have to have them on for 9 months and so far the first week has felt like 9 months :| I'm hoping I will feel more comfortable on the next week.
Looking forward to seeing some changes.
