Does having Braces make you feel cool?

I'm 49 and can't say I'm particularly enjoying this process. I am definitely more comfortable with them now than in the beginning. Most of the time I forget I have them and very few people actually comment on them. So far my teeth have only moved slightly (or so it seems to me) which has been a bit disappointing when I read how others see big changes early on. I do have a fair amount of bottom crowding so suspect it's harder to see the change with so much needing to move. I have the Waterpik, brushing and flossing routine down pat and love the feeling when my teeth are totally clean. Eating is a pain and annoying how much sticks to the brackets. I will be thrilled to reach the end of this process but trying not to wish time away either.

Yes, braces made me feel cool. I now have brace envy! I'm always spotting people with braces and thinking I want to be cool again. There's the appearance but also the self improvement feel good factor. I miss my braces and would like to have them again.

I was born in 1980, and it seemed like throughout grade school and middle school, "everyone" had braces. So to me, traditional metal braces (like the ones I have) remind me of the 80's, which I love. (I love anything 80's; as I write this, I'm wearing a Masters of the Universe T-shirt)

On top of that, I'm dating an oral surgeon's assistant, and she digs my braces and thinks its cool that I like them.

I love everybody's different answers! Its amazing how we are having the same experience (mostly) yet feel so different.

I feel......... Awkward mostly to sum it up in one word. I feel unsexy, uncomfortable, cheesy, very insecure, very UNCOOL except to a 12 year old, just ughhhhhhhh overall.

I think I feel this way because so many people have commented how weird my lips look and how awkward it makes me. Having the elastics makes me even more geeky feeling. I need my teeth, I miss my smile. I know I have been very depressed this last year. Sure I LOVE the results and know I was unhappy before with my teeth but I can not wait to smile again and feel pretty again

I know I should not care what people think but I do and I wish I didn't.

No idea about cool or not but it's definitely another conversation piece for me. Several people at my workplace have braces or planning getting them.

I don't really feel arkward having them. The only things that bother me are the pain, the limitation regarding what I can eat. Also when I speak, my lips dont slide along my teeth the way it used to so it's harder to speak, hopefully just temporarily..

Great Topic! I can't say that they make me feel cool, but they don't make me feel insecure either. I'm 29 and don't really care what people think of me one way or another. I joke with my boyfriend about how they make me look younger so maybe that's cool. I love food so I just hate that most of it ends up stuck in my braces.

Definitely! I don't necessarily like the fact that I have them on, but the fact that I can actually see them working is amazing... I smile so much more now.

i wouldn't say it has made me feel cool but it has definitely given me more confidence from the day i had them put on. i can't explain it but i find it easier to smile with the braces on than i did before.

Full disclosure, I don't have braces yet, but I'm pretty certain of how I'll feel (after the pain goes away, at least!).

I'm in my mid-twenties, have a (delightful, supportive) husband and a professional career. And I know I will LOVE having braces. I won't feel cool exactly, but they will be a big confidence booster. I just know I'll be the person who smiles more with them. I'm already a bit of an oddball/nerd, so having braces will just give me permission be my goofy self even more! If I turn out to be wrong though, I'll post here and let you guys know. :)

I don't have my braces yet but....since I've always been envious of people with perfect teeth, I assume that I will feel cool wearing them because I will be one of those people.

Based on what people have said when I mentioned getting braces, I think alot of people think they are cool as opposed to something negative impression.

I definitely thought it was cool when I was in high school and all my friends were getting fancy colours and stuff, but now not so much. I definitely think I look better without them!

Hey BSS--well I'm 55, and at my age you really stop giving a sh*t what people think of you or what you do. So, ya, I like having braces. I feel like it makes me more interesting.

I might only be 30, but I also really do not care much what people think. If someone is superficial enough to have isssues with them, then they are not the type I need to associate with. Funny thing is that I do like to be noticed, and braces help here, as do the bright red eyeglass frames. I think they are a great conversation starter, especially since I am kind of shy until I get to know someone or they break the ice. They do make me feel cool

Well I am over 60 and yeah I have to admit I think they are cool. In fact I just got pink powerchain on top and ping ligs on the bottom. My co worker who is in her 40's was sitting in a retaurant and a gentleman came over on his way out and commented that he thought her braces were very sexy!!

I want someone to tell me my braces are sexy!

I do think my braces are cool. Several co-workers have told me I'm brave! I'm hoping to inspire a couple of people to follow my lead.

The only thing that bothers me about the braces is the floss issue but aside from that I love having them. I even like feeling pressure on my teeth because it means they are working.
