x-rays during orthodontic treatment & your experience

#1 Post by anngie27 »

How often are x-rays taken during orthodontic treatment & how often have you had x-rays during your own treatment?
I'm worried about root resorption and other issues and just want an idea of what to expect now that I have started my journey.
Thanks in advance

Hi anggie
I had a panoramic done about 5 months in. After about a year my periodontist did bite wings which he sent to the ortho and apparently the roots look good.

I have had scans/xrays and photos taken 4 times so far. So far so good. I think I will have them again right before they come off. My ortho also has his own lab so this may not be the norm for most patients.

I wouldn't worry too much.

I was told for my treatment that I should only have the two x-rays at the beginning and end of treatment. They do sometimes take more but only if the situation calls for it. They don't actually have x-ray machinary at their practice so I to go to the hospital for them.

I had an iCAT scan done prior to the installation of my upper appliance. Incredibly cool technology and of enormous value as a diagnostic and inspection tool.

I had one at the beginning and another during, a few weeks ago. I had to have some other dental work done during the treatment so I needed the x-rays for that, but it was nice to see the difference since the beginning of treatment in the x-rays.
