Getting rid of stains..

#1 Post by Roboto »

Hello all! I told my younger cousin that I would see if I could find a solution to her problem, so I thought I'd come to the experts. She has had her braces for a few months more than me, maybe a year and a half. I don't know if it's from a lack of care, the toothbrush not reaching as well as she thought (her mouth and teeth are really small), or maybe too much soda, but she has a little bit of brown staining between her 2 front bottom teeth. Does anybody know of any tips or recipes for getting rid of them? I didn't think they looked too advanced so maybe there's some kind of at-home concoction she can whip up..?

Thank you :)

Has she tried baking soda with one of those little teeny brushes twice a week for 2-3 weeks? Also, once she does get rid of the stain tell her to use a straw to drink...everything! I even use a straw for my hot coffee...I hate it but it's a necessary evil to keep the fluid from getting on the front of your teeth and staining them.

I'm not sure that she's tried anything yet. Do you make the baking soda into a paste with water?

I use a straw for everything but the hot drinks (how does your straw not melt? lol). I just swish like crazy with water when I'm done and so far so good!

I have had success with baking soda. I just wet the little brush and dip it in baking soda. Also I had my teeth cleaned last week and she got rid of any staining that was there. :P

A novel idea... visit the dentist :). The stains between the teeth should be removable with a proper cleaning. It is a good idea to make sure they are simply stains and not cavities that could cause bigger problems later.

The dentist?? What does the dentist have to do with her teeth? Haha, just kidding! :P

I didn't think about them being cavities.. Thanks, Dr. Tam! I'll suggest a visit.

I agree with starting by going to the dentist. I'm planning on making an appointment for a dental checkup within a day or two of getting my braces off. You know, in two years or so. Good luck to your cousin!

I have this also! I think it's always been there but because of the teeth straightening out they no longer overlap therefore it's really really obvious now :(. I believe i have fillings between the front two teeth which is what is discoloured/stained! Is there something they can do whilst i'm still in braces? Would the baking soda work on this?

Thanks BF

I developed stain on many of my front teeth (mainly bottom) and I thought there is nothing I could do about it until I get out of my braces. Yesterday I went to my dentist for cleaning and he told me that it is unusual and implied that my periodontist's hygienist didn't do her job properly. (I alternate my cleaning between my dentist and periodontist every three month while in braces, which was my periodontist's recommendation.) Maybe my dentist was a jealous type. He did an excellent job of cleaning and all of my stains are gone now. I don't know how I can keep my teeth clean from stains on my own, though. Maybe I will try baking soda.

I've also heard good things a baking soda, if that doesn't work then she should get a "deep" cleaning from her dentist and that should do the trick. Good luck!
