Thanks for updating! I am not looking forward to elastics. I have power chains from the beginning on both sides of my molars to close my 2nd premolar extraction gaps. They are no fun at all. I know what you mean about that excrutiating pain that they say is normal. I got even shorter power chains the last time and one side gave me that feeling for the first couple of days. It still pains me, 2 weeks later, but not that stop you dead in your tracks pain.

Forgot to mention that I was drinking through a straw for the first several days with that pain. I even broke down and called to make sure it was "normal".

The worst part of elastics for me is the increased claustrophobic feeling and the fact that they make me clench so hard while I'm sleeping. When I wake up in the middle of the night or morning it feels like I need to pry my jaws apart. I was never a clencher before braces and I hope once I'm done I'll stop being one.

Oh, and the grooves they sometimes wear into the insides of my cheeks :(

I drink almost everything through a straw now anyway. It's just easier. But when I had the worst of the nerve pain, that didn't even help because I wasn't able to keep fluids away from it enough, even with a straw.
In full braces for 2 years, 3 weeks, 1 day.
