Hey Elle:

I'll have my first checkup in a few days, have had the bottoms wired since 27 January 2012. First timer, so it has been very unusual and very interesting.

The reason for this post is to note for you that they have amazing treatments for stroke victims. My mum had a stroke 10 years ago and now, you can't even really tell she had it, and yet immediately afterwards, and for like a month, she was SOOO sick. She couldn't sit up, if they helped her sit up, she'd fall right over because her balance was all wrong. After a couple of months she was fine. Tell your gramma to hang in there.

I decided to get braces because I just wanted my front teeth to be pretty. A friend of mine told me the braces are doing all sorts of things to my jaw and arch and of course to the teeth themselves. I did not know how complicated it all is. Looking at your teeth, how pretty they are, I am now hoping that MINE will look as nice one day! I honestly did not know how tippy they WERE. Queen of denial here.

Good luck to you and your grams. And, wait for it: KEEP SMILING. Bwahahaa no you don't have to smile just kidding.

Canuck88- Thank you so much. Sometimes I feel like I am just rambling. Glad you are reading my posts.

Batwing- Thanks Batwing. Having this blog has really helped me be laugh at myself and deal with being a bit dramatic about braces. My Grams is a fighter, shes doing well Thank you.

Real- Thank you. My Grams is doing really well. She has recovered beyond their expectations but at almost 97 they really don't seem to care about recovery. Least the poor thing can eat again. I am glad your mother recovered well. We laugh a lot and she can eat, all she needs is a good cup of coffee and she's set. LOL Love your joke about smiling. It did make me smile.

My teeth are moving well. Its funny how BORINGGGGG it gets after 466 days. I am loving the results. Going to the hospital daily for 6 weeks has made me realize how unimportant caring about my teeth are. I am less self conscious and trying to be patient and appreciate I am able to have my teeth fixed.

Thanks for reading and I enjoy reading everyone's stories too. Sure makes it easier to be able to relate with others.

Take care and Keep Smiling

Thank you! This thread is so so helpful and motivating and reassuring for me being a newbie. Just sat and read the whole thing! On day 2 today so very baby steps but can't wait to see the kind of improvement you are now...your teeth look amazing!
Like you, I have a tooth that sticks out...along with other crooked ones. Can't wait til it falls back int line and isn't a constant reminder.

Look forward to following you to brace freedom! Many thanks again

Awww Thanks Deeley That's so sweet. I am glad I can help people like you just starting their journey like so many on here helped me.

Update- Adjustment last week

I need to update my pics. Things look mostly the same, little things closing up on the side then opening and then closing, ughhhh, I miss those big changes in the beginning. Now I love staring at my smile and imagining what it will look like when the metal is off. I think my wonky tooth is a little out of line again as he tries to close up the tiny overbite gap.

Last week I had another adjustment, he said everything was looking great and I was doing a great job wearing my elastics. He switched me back to upside down triangle elastics and the night time front elastic. My bite is looking great and my midline is looking more aligned though things change all the time.

I go back in 5 weeks for another adjustment. I am trying to remember to change my elastics more frequently and to be patient LOL. It's so exciting to read about others just starting their journey and others getting them off and starting retainer life.

Thanks for reading , I promise to post pics next week when I am near my computer and camera.

I think I must be at 500 days in braces now!! Crazy!!!

Take care, Oh my Grams is doing good, she is now living at a care home down the street from my house which is really nice and convenient for daily visits.

Hi Elle , I went through your story and saw the progress of your teeth ,, they look amazing

OMG They way you expressed your first impression with braces  it's exactly what I felt the first day and during the first 3 weeks ,, every time I was looking into the mirror I steer on my teeth and talk to my self !! What have you done to your face :FeelSick:
And I was really thinking ,, shall I go back and ask my ortho to take them off ,, it was really hard feeling ,, and was telling my sister that I feel like I am a face with a mouth only loool and I became obsessed braces googler . I think one day I would tell the ortho what do.

It was soooo funny to read those comments and think ,, oh there is some one else who felt exactly the same

Thanks for sharing your feeling and your story

Waiting to see how your teeth will look like after debraced

501 DAY in Braces pics

Sorry its been so long since I posted pics. Things get kinda boring after 500 days  I notice somethings opening up, some things closing but overall its getting there. My overbite was 10mm at the start and as you can see its almost not existent, a mm or 2. My right side seems to have opened up a bit again but left side just has a small black spot so thats good.

I took a pic of the front elastic I wear at night time and the upside down triangles I wear 24/7 though I prefer the class II mal. elastic to pull the lower jaw forward.

501 day pics continued..........

My midline is perfect one day and then off the next.

I am trying to change my elastics many times through out the day and wear my nighttime one for about 9 hours.

I have a tiny black hole and one tooth (lower fang) to still move into place. It was the tooth most twisted at the beginning so it has taken the longest.

I am VERY happy with the results so far and pretty much just feel like my braces are apart of me and are never coming off so its hard to believe I could have them off in the next 6 months +/- Sometimes I think ughhhhhhhhhhhhh wish they were off for that party or that event but know they will come off when they are ready no point of worrying about it too much.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the warmer weather.

Looking VERY good Elle!!! I know EXACTLY what you mean about the midline, that one day it looks good, the next day it looks off. I feel a similar thing happens to me and I thought i was imagining it. How much longer? you look like you are done. Congrats on your 500 days of Braces!

I am soooooooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in the Final stages of my braces after 17 months  My original sentence was 2.5 years so I am ahead of schedule and have 2-3 months left. He said he may do 1 more (maybe 2 more adjustments) which are 4 weeks apart now (not 6) and then they slowly take them off, molar bands first then a couple weeks later BRACES OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That means by mid August I will be free, not in time for the big family reunion July long weekend but less than 100 days to go. :-*

I got a checklist that asks 5 questions.... Do I like my smile and position of front teeth? , Do you agree your teeth are straight?, Does your bite feel good? , Are there any changes before you want removed? , Any additional questions?? Sign on the line!!

WOW I think I am almost 100% happy?? The questions feel like the final questions to a huge prize......a brace free smile?? I don't want to make a mistake and assume the ortho will be the one to say, its as good as it can get. I think my teeth are close, really close and braces make things look more out of wack. I was never looking for perfection but I think I almost got it, considering I didn't want to do lower jaw surgery.

I was sooooooo good at wearing the elastics, changing all the time and wearing the nighttime elastic for 8-10 hours a night. Upside down triangle elastics for the next 4 weeks!!! but no nighttime elastic.

Can you tell I am excited??, I think I am more in shock though, to actually have a paper that says. We are nearing the END, less than 3 months.

I was so excited I didn't realize the ortho assistant didn't put the wire in the molar band until I was home so now I get to waste another couple hours driving there ughhhhh, oh well, going to take Grams for the ride and then out to lunch at the beach.

Oh, Elle- I am SOOOO HAPPY for you!! I can feel your excitement coming out of my computer screen! Your teeth really do look amazing, and I bet you wanted to just jump out of your chair when you got that checklist to fill out. It would take me about .3 milliseconds to fill it out: YESYESYESNONO! I, too, am not looking for perfection. I'm looking for something I won't be embarrassed to show the world (especially from the side - yeesh, that was BAD!)

I'm hoping we get debraced around the same time. I see my ortho on Friday, and am going to have a chat with him. I'm pretty much happy with them now, so I'm going to ask if I can get them off in July. I have a big family wedding to go to, and would really like to not have to worry about food, brackets, etc. Wish me luck!

Wow Elle!!! Amazing news! I have been following your story from near the beginning as I initially began my journey just after you and you were very supportive of me with my pre-braces panic. Since plans changed, I have only just started now (Invisalign) and it is amazing for me to realize that you are now nearing the end. Such happy news and your teeth look amazing!

Hey Elle!

I've been meaning to ask you - is that a GOLD powerchain in your pics above? It looks so cool! Let me know if it stains at all. I'm back to my lavendars, but am always looking for different ones to try.

I'm in a much better frame of mind after my ortho visit last week. I know he's doing the right think in keeping the braces on because I can even see improvement from just the last 3 days. Getting my broken bracket (how did that happen? ) replaced today, so that should speed things along.

Have a great week!

ROFL oh my gosh that made me laugh. Its not gold its a gray one that has been stained by too many cups of coffee, tea, lipstick and I think a falafel. Though I think mostly it was the falafel in my gyro. Mmmmmmm it was good. Gold would sure make a cool "grill" though, but you can accomplish yourself with a falafel :-*

I am way to shy to use colored ligs (wish I was more cool) but I did ask for colored elastics and I must say the purple is awesome not as noticeable as the white ones. I will take a pic later.

It's a holiday here today (Happy Bday queen, thanks for the day off work) so I have to wait til Wednesday to fix my lig, oh well I think it has not done any damage yet, just not helping anything.

Yes I think its good to be patient, we have done this for so long a few more weeks is worth it. My counter says 85 more days now

Thanks Lilone. Time has gone fast. I am very happy with the results and can't wait to see the final results in a couple months. I miss my white teeth

Oh... OK.  They do look really cool, though! I remember when my light blue one turned 3 different shades: light blue on the front 2 teeth; a light seafoam green on the next 2, and then darker bluish-green on the back teeth. Looked kinda neat!

I think I would love the purple elastics. These white ones look too much like fangs, and after wearing them for 5 months, I'm only now getting asked, "What's that on your teeth?? How do you eat?? Don't they hurt??" Thank goodness I'm not as self-conscious about them as I thought I'd be.
