What did you pay for surgical wisdom tooth removal?

#1 Post by jamsmak04 »

Well my ortho said it " time to refer you to an oral surgeon to remove your 4 impacted wisdom teeth"
OUCH, on both my mouth and wallet.
Just out of curiosity anyone with impacted wisdoms who needed to be sedated, how much did it cost you?
3 are impacts against my back molar and one is completely sideways. So surgery is the only option for me lol.

I had two wisdom teeth out in 2005. One had erupted, the other had not and neither of them were impacted. The one that hadn't come through had a cyst forming around it. The surgeon fee was $550 with nothing back since I had no insurance and medicare doesn't cover it. The anaesthetist was around $300. I got almost all of that back from Medicare as I had long since hit the safety net for that year. I think I was about $5 out of pocket for that one.

I am self employed so I have no insurance either. I can get insurance but I keep putting it off. So this is an out of pocket expense for me. My ortho said I need general since 4 are being removed and they are all impacted.

I had 6 teeth removed some time last year (March, I think)- 2 upper premolars and my 4 wisdom teeth, 2 of which were impacted and sideways like you describe. I think the impacted wisdom teeth cost something like $495 US per tooth. Knocking me out cost something like $200 an hour (but for 6 teeth to be removed I did NOT want to be any amount of conscious). My grand total for 6 teeth + knocking me out was about $2800 US. Only half was reimbursed by my dental insurance :/... oh well! I'm on my way to a beautiful $10,000 smile! (give or take a few thousand) lol

My son and I both had some removed in March of this year. Insurance covered most for us as well, but here were the standard charges:

$95 Pano x-rays
$275 exodontia of erupted tooth (any)
$355 exodontia of bony impacted tooth (#1 or #16)
$410 exodontia of bony impacted tooth (#17 or #32)
$350 general anesthesia

I had two removed and my son had all four.

Hope this helps :)

I had all four wisdom teeth impacted and removed. They were removed in two separate surgeries because my case was a little complicated. I was under general anesthesia.

After insurance I think I paid maybe $200 at most per procedure, so around $400 total. Anesthesia was covered by insurance because of the complexity of the case.

I was just talking to the insurance coordinator at my surgeon's office the other day and she was saying the rule of thumb is that insurance will cover general anesthesia if you have 3+ teeth getting removed at once, or there is impaction. So that may be something for you to ask about.

I also had follow ups with the surgeon that were included in my total cost- I had to return three different times. Once because I had dry socket, and twice because I had shards of bone that were stuck in my gums and wouldn't come out-- my teeth broke when they were removed and the surgeon said something about the trauma of removing them loosens up the casing around the root of the tooth, causing fragments to come up to the surface in healing. I hope if I'm explaining this wrong, someone can correct me, it's been a while but I remember that actually being the worst part.

I had all 4 of mine removed at once. $900 out of pocket with being put to sleep for the whole thing...Most people seem to recover after a couple of days...It took me almost 2 weeks to get back to eating normally.

My advice....if you can, get them all out at once...never have to worry about it again.

I think for all 4 I paid around $600, with my insurance. However, at the time, the admin said that she was going to submit the claim for anesthesia, but they don't usually cover it. About a month later though, I received a check from their office for $260 for the anesthesia costs, which was an awesome surprise. So I really paid only $250 or so. None of my teeth were impacted.

I didn't think it was that bad. I always hear stories from people who act like it was like some Saw movie, getting their teeth out. I was back at work 2 days later. I don't see why it's always so dramatic.

All 4 of mine were pulled in 2004 right before my freshmen year in college and my mom's dental insurance covered it all but the $20 co payment.

I just had 3 impacted wisdom teeth and 2 baby teeth removed. Just for the wisdom teeth it was probably around $1400, $550 for anesthesia and $280 for the day surgery. The surgery ended up costing more than what I'm going to pay for my deposit on the braces :(
