Overbite , will I be able to talk and close my mouth ?

#1 Post by spudly »

Hi
I am getting ceramic braces in 4 weeks on my top teeth after my bottom braces are fitted next week
I have a 9 mm overbite and am wondering once I have my braces fitted will I find it difficult to talk or close my mouth? I already don't comfortably close my mouth so I would guess it would be harder but I hope not impossible ??! :?
Trying to prepare myself for how it will feel and hope it will make me feel more comfortable when they are fitted knowing what to expect :D
Age 48 years young
bands to be fitted 15th June
Bottom metal braces fitted 22nd June
Top ceramic fitted 20th July

Hey Spudly--with braces alone, you should have no problems speaking or closing your mouth. (used to be 10mm--probably at 2-3 now!).

Good luck with your journey!

Mine was 9mm to start with and I coped. Yes its difficult to close your mouth but you will be able to. My teeth moved very quickly in the first 8 weeks anyway and by the time I had my first adjustment I was used to getting my top lip over them!

Honestly it was a bit awkward at first cause there was so much in my mouth and I found it hard to close my mouth before. It felt like It took a lot of effort. I started with 10 mm overbite and it is nonexistent now. I was taking my inhaler this morning and thought, wow that's so easy now, it seemed really hard before.

Good luck, don't worry too much, who knows maybe it won't be an issue for you. I think I have a small mouth with big teeth.

I am so happy with my results and have a couple weeks left, it was worth it. I can't wait to see what my mouth will feel like without braces ;-)

You will probably get bite turbos to make sure your top incisors don't hit the lower brackets. They are definitely annoying at first, but you get used to them and they will also speed up your overbite correction (hence the name bite turbos).
