Not changing archwire

#1 Post by vincent168 »

My ortho didn't change my upper wire this visit but changed the ligatures but she did change it for the lowers. Does it mean the uppers are completed now? Or its standard practice to not change one while changing the other?

Sometimes the wire needs more time to work it's magic. It all depends! Just ask next time your in what their plan is for that visit.

I got my braces in January. The upper wire is the same wire, though I get a new power chain on the front most every visit since he put that on (visit this week he didn't mess with it at all).
My lower wire is the second wire I've had (no power chain).
The only time all the ligatures were changed is when he changed the lower wire.

Makes me glad I did go with clear ligatures and power chain -- some of the ligs on my upper back teeth are 'original'! If I go color, I want to change them each visit.

(And since putting the new ligs on is one of the more uncomfortable things for me, I'm NOT going to request a new color each time!)

Each wire has its own purpose. From what I understand, it really depends on however long it takes to accomplish that purpose.

In the beginning, I was switching wires fairly frequently. Right now, I've had the same wire since early December.

I really wouldn't worry at this point.

I've only been in my braces a little over a month. I still have same wires upper/lower. Just had lig changes. I can tell teeth are moving because wire is no longer straight. Maybe wire will change at 2nd adjustment at end of July.
