#1 Post by Leelee37 »

Hello all, I got my braces this morning. I almost cried when I looked in the mirror after, I feel so ridiculous. I couldn't eat much tonight...I feel like someone punched me in the mouth! I'm 37 and should have gotten braces long ago. Now I'll need to wear braces for 2 years and in between I'll need a mandibular advancement surgery. I'm also missing a tooth do at some point I'll get an implant. I'm happy I I ally got started but am scared too! Lad to have found this site.

Hi Leelee and WELCOME!!! This is a great site and you will enjoy it because every one is so supportive and inspiring to eachother. I am about one month out from getting braced and excited/nervous. Once again welcome to the site and keep us informed on your journey. :)

Hello & Welcome!
I am 55 years old and just finishing month four- twenty more to go. Sure wish I had this done at your age! This is a wonderful site to share & research.
Take it slow, easy and with patience. Allow extra time for meals (chewing is till tuff) & hygiene.

I felt the same way- but my daughter pointed out that it just looks like I had my lips plumped up. LOL

Thanks everyone! I got the braces yesterday morning and today has been HARD. My molars are hurting and I can't really chew on anything so I had a milkshake for lunch. The insides of my mouth are super sore and the rubbing on my cheeks is driving me crazy! But I came to work today and I've been amazed at how many people said, "Oh, I want to get braces!" or "I didn't even notice!" Or "you look cute!". So that's been nice. I'm looking forward to this soreness going away and getting used to having all this metal in my mouth. I'm grateful for all the support here. I've been feeling kinda lonely!
