The time between consult and bonding. How did you pass it?

#1 Post by Glandyover »

Going back, how did you pass the time between the sentencing and the actual appointment to get braces?
How long was that time and were you actually actively dreading it or were you looking forward to it a bit?

I'm going to have to wait about a month between appointments because my orthodontist travels between about 5 offices in the state and is only in this office twice a month. The waiting is driving me nuts.

I couldn't wait!! It was a couple of weeks for me--but it all happened so fast anyway--from my decision to get braces and bonding was only about a month. I spent all that time studying braces and appliances and the good things and the bad things etc etc online during that time. I watched every bracing and debracing video and every other video I could find about braces.

I really knew what I was getting myself into...some of the videos---well, some people are kind of "wendy whiners" because its really all ok. Not half as bad as some of the people on the videos make it out to be!

Good luck in your journey!

I had my consult on September 20th (x-rays, impressions and photos were taken). I then had to wait 2 weeks to receive a treatment plan in the post and then I could book a brace date if I wanted to go ahead. I wanted to ask more questions so had a 2nd part of the consult on 18th October. I then booked my brace date for the 18th November (he was very busy). So over all, from consult until brace date it was 2 months and I was so impatient!

Wow. I would have gone nuts. As it is I'm barely containing myself, but having to wait that long would have made me crazier than I already am.

One of the orthos I had a consult with actually will actually put the braces on the same day that the molds and x-rays are taken. Is that really unusual?

For my original impressions and between consults for my Clearstep it was like 2 weeks to a month between arious appointments (I didn't go for Clearstep due to timescale and results wouldn't be as good as I had hoped for).

For my consultation with x-rays, mould etc to haing upper braces was 2 weeks-It felt like an eternity and I struggled to sleep and was desperate for each day to pass as it had been months ago I started the process when I was looking at Clearstep.

My wait was VERY LONG....about 7months in total from consult to braced...

Nov 1st 2011 went for consult......was told i had to get a tooth pulled

Nov 17th 2011 - got the tooth pulled by my regular dentist, (who informed me that i would require fillings before being braced)
I didnt have the money for fillings at the time(It cost me about 3500 for tooth coloured fillings) So i had to put it off until the new year (when i saved for it)

Jan 6th 2012 - Got 2 fillings done ( Was told i couldn't do all 8 at once because of the placement on the cavities, {2 on each side top & bottom} & the amount of anesthesia that it would require)

Jan 13th 2012 - Got another 2 fillings done

WAIT ALMOST 4MONTHS to GET ANOTHER APPOINTMENT TO GET THE OTHER 4 FILLINGS DONE.

May 17th 2012- Got 2 fillings done

May 24th 2012 - Got the last 2 fillings done and a clean & Polish

June 1st 2012 - Got Braced!!!!!!! FINALLY

Most places take about three days . One place used to do same day but went to indirect bonding. I'd love affordable same day braces. Still, this ortho is worth the wait. Sigh

So your final meal was a salad? My final meal might be more like peanut brittle or Bit o' Honey.

My first meal with them will probably be chocolate pudding or pumpkin pie. My first time I tried to eat a sandwich. I've never forgotten that sandwich. I remember it more than any other sandwich I've ever eaten in my life.

Well , I had my consult with the ortho I went with in April. I could have went on from there to start the process, but I wanted to eliminate my car note before I accured another bill bc I knew I would have to pay monthly payments for the braces. So, I knew I would have my car paid off in July so my actual braces process started at the end of June with impressions, records, and x-rays. On July 12th I had 8 spacers placed and brackets put on. On July 19th I got my top wire and bands put on along with a different color set of spacers on the bottom bc the blue ones were not making the space. July 24th I had my two 1st bicuspids removed on the bottom and August 14th I will have my bottom wire and bands placed. :jump:

I was lucky things went pretty fast for me. I found out I had to get my wisdom teeth (and a tooth that was very crooked) out at the start of May and wanting to save the crooked tooth I got an ortho consult. Had x-rays done on the day of my first consult mid-May (I already had the panoramic from my wisdom teeth appoinment) Found out I could save it at my consult the tooth at the treatment planning appoinmtment at the end of May so changed my extraction with my regular dentist. Mid-June I had my wisdom teeth out and 2 weeks later I got braces on. I had to get impressions done at my bracing appoinment as they wanted to wait for the wisdom teeth to come out to get the right teeth in the impression. All a bit hectic to be honest but so glad it pushed me to get over my fear and get my braces!

I had to wait two months from my first appointment till I got my upper braces. Had 5 visits the first month (because of my anxiety we had to take it slow, one thing at the time. I even had my upper braces put on in pieces  ), and the last month I almost went crazy with the anxiety since it was just waiting that month.

How I survived it? I don’t know… the waiting was horrible. The result from the waiting? It made me cancel my original bonding appointment and we had to do something else on that appointment or else I might have had canceled the whole thing. He managed to calm me down on that appointment and I agreed to a bonding date two days later, he did not want to let the anxiety get to me like it did

But as everybody else I survived the waiting. Try not to think on it too much even though I how difficult it can be, but or else it will drive you nuts. Do things you enjoy and the days will go fast

My ortho has stopped giving me date and time for next appointments now because I’m like this even with adjustments, as we get closer to appointments my anxiety get worse. When the day is there my ortho has to use 30mins to calm me down before we can anything. Now he will call me a few hours before my appointment to let me know that I have an appointment that day

So yeah, the waiting was horrible but I did make it through

I had my consultation on 19 November 2011 and got my treatment plan in the post about 2 weeks later (early December 2011). I was having second thoughts so I didn't build up the courage to contact the orthodontist until about 2 weeks after I had rcvd the treatment plan by which time it was already past mid December. Due to the Christsmas and New Year holidays, I wasn't able to get an appoinment before 07 January 2012. So overall it was 7 weeks wait from consultation to brace day.

Even after I had booked the appointment to have the braces fitted, I was still having second thoughts. It was a 2 week wait from the date I booked the apppointment upto the brace day. I was scared, I almost called the ortho office and cancelled. Now almost 7 months on, I am glad I went ahead :D

I made the decision to get braces back in Dec '11. I had an insurance issue and I knew I would not be able to afford braces without my mums coverage so I had to wait until January to get everything sorted. I scheduled my first consult for Feb. 1st and my 5th (and last one) was on April 1st... I decided to go with the 5th guy. After deciding on him I then had to save up for my first payment *$2000* and did so by the end of April. Then required a single extraction and was finally braced May 9th!

The time between making the decision to get braced *dec '11* and actually getting braced *may '12* was brutal! I was sooo excited to get started and it killed me that I couldn't begin the process immediately. I passed the time researching any and everything I could! I honestly think I watched every single braces youtube vid out there
