Re: Got my braces on this morning!
Thanks to everyone for the help.
I don't know everything about my case but I will post what I do know:
-Upper front teeth are too far ahead of the lower front teeth
-Excessive spacing between the upper teeth
-Space available for the lower teeth is insufficient
-Lower front teeth deviated to right
My treatment time is estimated to be 18 - 24 months.
I will have a frenectomy after the space is closed.
I will be getting my wisdom teeth pulled (top and impacted bottoms).
I will have two permanent retainers bonded to uppers and lowers.
I will also have a removable clear plastic retainer every night.
I will try to find my papers with measurements and all the technical stuff that I don't know right now.
Here are the pics. The close up was taken while I was still in the orthodontist office. The other one is from late last night. I have tried to resize the pictures but they are still coming up really big. I post in another forum and the pics came up slightly smaller so I don't know what to do about that...

Re: Got my braces on this morning!
Ok ur teeth are in good shape t begin wid.
I have the same estimated time as u and I kno my teeth has a lot more movement to do......so um wishing u speedy teeth movement so that u get done early or right on time. :d.
I was also told that i'll need a frenectomy when I'm finished my treatment too but I'm not sure about the cost etc. I'lll enquire at my 1st 6month cleaning at my regular dentist. He runs an oral surgery practice.
You kno more about ur case than I do about mine.
All I kno is my front four teeth stick out and I hav class 1 on the right and claSs 2 on the left...... Lolzzz
Well chao for now

Re: Got my braces on this morning!
nikkibabie19,
I was actually surprised to hear 18-24 months. I thought I'd be able to have a much shorter treatment time but I had a few consultations with different orthodontists and they all gave me the same estimate. I was pretty disappointed but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end. & hopefully I will be able to finish early.

I hope you're right! I'd love to get them off earlier but I'm in it for however long it takes.

Re: Got my braces on this morning!
Thank you very much! I assure you, my teeth are not very white, it just looks like that in the pics, possible because of the flash. My teeth are just an average color with a couple stains on the back teeth.
I am in pain and I was not expecting this much pain when I bite down. But I'm not going to complain too much because the pain means movement and that's what I want.

Re: Got my braces on this morning!
Hi,
I was looking at your photos. Your diastema seems to be just a bit wider than mine. How do they close this, do you? Do they move ALL the teeth over in the arch? Is that why you have to wear brackets on the bottom teeth as well? Or is it to give the elastics something to pull on? I still haven't gone for a consultation and am very nervous about what I'm going to hear from the orthodontist. The whole idea of getting braces is still very new to me and I haven't quite wrapped my head around it yet.

I have braces on the bottom because I have crowding due to impacted wisdom teeth pushing them together.
Right now, we are not working on closing the gap, just straightening the teeth. When I have my next appointment in October, I may be getting power chains to get started on closing the diastema (gap in my teeth).
I say if your teeth bother you, go for it. Make sure to get multiple consultations so you can make the best decisions.

Re: Got my braces on this morning!
I have posted more update pics and a full story on my blog http://makekeyover.blogspot.com/2012/08 ... -pics.html
Here is a progress pic:
I'm seeing a difference in my top teeth and a slight difference in my bottom teeth. We aren't closing the gap yet because this wire is not strong enough to support the 'power chains'. I have no more pain (except when I chew) I swear the first week was torture but I feel a lot better, and happier, now! If you want more info/pics, please check out my blog.
