Re: weight loss
I lost 25-30 lbs in the first 4 months. I have managed to keep it off plus a few more. I exercised regularly and ate healthy before braces so I assume, it was just not being able to eat due to teeth hurting, not wanting to have to brush, and maybe even just being better about what I eat.
Either way, being only 5'1, this has been the best diet for me!

Not sure if you are asking me this qustion, but my braces on still on! Ugh!sunflower1 wrote:is it hard to maintain after getting the braces off?
For me, I can't imagine it will be hard to keep the weight off. I still work out, eat healthy and I have been able to eat whatever I want for the majority of time being in braces. I eat things I am not supposed to so the braces themselves, are a non-issue.
Good luck!

Re: weight loss
Hey snowglobe32 we've lost about the same amount of weight I stand 5'9". I think once braces come off I'll be able to keep weight off chasing behind a little one not going to lie I've never been an on purpose exercise person but I figure walking up/down stairs in my home and mowing the front/back yard I should be able to keep weight off. A major plus not wanting sweets and candy is a big help

Re: weight loss
I have had braces for a month and have always had trouble keeping my weight up even after 2 kids. I started at 105 pounds when I was braced up and now weigh 98 pounds. I want to weigh about 110-115 but have been drinking shakes every day to no avail.
Re: weight loss
I think for most people who lose weight while in braces is due to 3 things.
1) biting down on things hurts. so we end up eating a lot less
2) we don;t eat as many snacks because we like to keep the braces as clean as possible.
3) as the teeth move, the bone remodelling probably uses up a lot of calories.

Re: weight loss
I could stand to shed about twenty pounds and I'm going to use this time in braces constructively. First, I'm going to stop eating sooner due t the annoyance factor. Second, fewer snacks because I don't want to ditch the wax and clean stuff up. Third, more activity. It's getting a little cooler here and it's bearable to go out at night or in the morning and take walks. This has nothing but upside potential!
Re: weight loss
I'm in the same boat, rowing in back! I lost 40 pounds before the braces and now go between a size 0 to 2 and have stayed that way since the braces. It is mainly due to not being able to eat all the junk I used to and I still eat 5 meals a day. Hummus has been a "go to" food when I have a adjustment and I always have a smoothie right after the adjustment since i know i'm not going to be able to eat most of the day anyway.yogapaws wrote:This is my favorite topic- I've been in braces for 6 months & have lost about 20 lbs- from size 6/8 to 2/4.
My cholesterol went down to 181 form 239 so I am going to try to continue these eating habits.....
I do feel better-after the initial shock of loosing so much so quickly.
Eating a lot of hummus, avocado, lentils, black beans, greek yogart smoothies & my traditional breakfast of oatmeal or pancakes with fruit/walnuts.
Re: weight loss
I'm hoping for the side effect of weight loss to accompany my braces experience. :-)
I have only had spacers on for five days ... I feel a bit lighter since I'm living mostly on smoothies and soup, but haven't gotten on the scale yet.

Re: weight loss
25 lbs down here in the first three months or so and have kept it off (160 to 135, 5´5"). As my ortho says, I´m getting two procedures done for the price of one!! Total strangers tell me I´m skinny and I´ve had to buy all new pants and can even wear the skinny jeans that are popular here in Europe. Debanding set for Nov. 1 so the real test begins then. Usually have just a smoothie for dinner but really have just changed my eating habits with much less snacking.

Re: weight loss
No weight loss due to braces, I have been able to eat everything I did prior to having braces and just as much lol. I have recently lost weight due to a very strict diet though, damn you thyroid!

Re: weight loss
I've also been wondering about losing weight after I get my braces on. I'm one of those unfortunate Type I diabetics who is also overweight. I'm a bit concerned about being able to get enough carbohydrates in my diet if I am having trouble eating, though. Have an appointment with my dietician about a week before I'm scheduled to get my braces put on so that will give me some good ideas about how to cope with food.

Re: weight loss
I lost 5kg when I got my wisdom teeth pulled in July/August. I've kept it off and lost another 2kg. I now fit back into a UK size 10 trousers for the first time in 15 years. I call it the DTD (dental treatment diet).
