6 month braces.

#1 Post by Jamie91 »

Hi, I am new to the forum and have became a member so I can hopefully find some helpful reviews of the 6 months braces system. I will be getting them on in about a month if I decide to go ahead with the treatment.
If anybody could link me to some review with pictures that would be great. I am also unable to view photos on posts?

Hiya, I am a newbie here and I get my upper brace next week (5th sept.) as well as a lower extraction, followed by my lower braces in about another months time. Obviously I am only at the start of my braces journey so no pics yet, but just wanted to say hi to another 6 month-er!

Hi There,

I have a 6 month brace but so far it has been nearly 8 months and still no sign of them of them coming off. Apparently the average is 6 months but they can take as little as 4 or in some cases a year plus. I think I would have thought differently if I had know this so just putting that out there for you to think about as I felt little bit duped and every time I go for an adjustment feel diasppointed that they still ar not coming off. I really don't know how people go for years with braces and I take my hat of to them for that . If you really want it then go for it just don't get hung up on the 6 months .

Hi there,
I'm in "6 month smiles"
Here's links to some of the topics I've started. They might give you a little bit of insight:

http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtop ... 13&t=42468

I have to agree with the poster above me, about not getting hung out about the "6 month" mark. This is merely an estimate, a goal, more than anything, to get it done as CLOSE TO that amount of time as possible. However, I really didn't have that bad of teeth to start, and I'm month 9 right now. I will hopefully be getting them off next month, on my 10th month of treatment.
Some people get 6 months smiles and get them off within the 6 months - I know of one guy who had his "6 month" braces on for almost 2 years. So, that being said, it's a great option, and I don't regret it one bit... and although it has taken longer than 6 months, I still feel like a lot of progress has been made, in a pretty reasonable amount of time at that. I should also let you know, that your orthodontist will most likely level with you, and tell you if he thinks it will probably take longer than 6 months. They can tell you this based off other treatments they've completed that were cases similar to yours.
When I went for all my consultations, my ortho DID tell me it would take probably between 8 to 10 months for MY particular case. And if I DO end up getting them off next month, as we're hoping, he'll have been right on the money.

Thanks for your words of wisdom beanie bean and lux.

I have been advised my uppers will take approx 5 months and my lowers (which are more crowded) 10 months, so I am just taking it as it comes. I'm ready to get started now, have wanted this done for ages and next week can't come soon enough, although i am sure I will feel differently a few day after the braces are on!

I've got Six Month Smiles and have my 4 month check up tomorrow.

My original estimate of treatment time was 9 months.

My teeth have moved fast and at the 3 month check up my dentist said I may be able to be debraced tomorrow. That's not going to happen as I'm not 100% happy with the current position of the teeth, but we are very nearly there, it seems. I was quite happy with the 9 month estimate so being debraced any earlier is a bonus.

Generally speaking the uppers are more visible than the lowers so if the lowers rather than the uppers are likely to take the longest that's not such a bad thing, imo.

I just did a brief update today, as it happens. I had planned to do more, but a kitchen renovation got in the way.

Hi guys thanks for the replys. So i went to the dentist yesterday and he told me I will have to have a lower lateral incisor removal. This has kind of put me off because I have read a few things on the net about teeth removal, and people getting bad overjet or overbite problems due to removal of teeth. I'm not to fussed about not having a symmetry line down the middle, I'm more worried that getting a tooth removed will change the appareance of my face.
What do you guys thinks?
Should i be getting another opinion?

It's always worth getting a second and third opinion if you are unhappy with your dentists suggestions. After all you are paying the money and have to,live with the results for the rest of your life!

I had two upper (incisors I think) removed when I had a brace as a teenager and it doesn't seem to have altered my bite or the look of my face.

I had 1 lower incisor removed yesterday and my six month smile braces attached. My lowers are very overcrowded and crooked. My dentist and the technican said it looked better already just for removing that tooth and I have to say I agree with them.

My dentist is widening both my arches as well as straightening my teeth so I guess it depends on what your dentist has planned for you.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.
