Adjustment following Extractions

I got my upper braces plus all the bands on my molar last week. I also got a tranpalatal arch. Today I got my 2 of pre-molar extracted. I lost 2of my first molar when I was growing up due to bad dental hygiene. I really wished I took good care of it before but oh we'll I cant go back. I wanted to ask what will my next adjustment consist of and how long before the gap close. Thanks again.

Congrats on getting braced!

I don't have an transpalatal arch, but I did have an extraction. Actually, I had two extractions but one was several years before I started treatment so I'm not counting it and the second one was done to balance out the symmetry my mouth from the first extraction. Anyway, I had my left lateral incisor extracted May 31 of this year. I didn't think to measure the gap right away, but about six weeks later I measured the gap at 7mm. I'm thinking the original gap was 8, or maybe 9mm. It was fairly large considering how small the tooth was.

As of now, I'm at 3-4mm for that gap. My ortho's assistant told me early on to expect the gap to close at the rate of 1mm/month, mine seems to be close to that, if not ever so slightly more. Your mileage may vary, of course, I also have a powerchain in this section of my mouth so I think the progress may be a bit faster.

My adjustment post-op was not any different from others. They basically just changed the wires and ligs, except I got a powerchain after the extraction. But, with yours being a premolar, I'm not sure that they would apply a powerchain back there.
