BRACE yourself, its Tin Tooth's journey! ;)

#1 Post by Tin Tooth »

Get it, brace yourself. Sorry, I had too!

It all starts tomorrow, braces go on at 1 in the afternoon. Top 6 are going to be ceramic and the rest are metal, which includes the bottom teeth. I have an over jet of 3mm. Front right tooth was chipped when I was 10, and the filling material has been worn down so that tooth looks shorter than my left tooth. I just want all my teeth to be same length.

My plan is to have braces taken off before June 29th (MY WEDDING DAY) and put back on after wedding. I really hate to take them off for a few days since it can delay the process by 6 months but I do not want braces on my wedding day. It wouldn't be so bad if all teeth were ceramic.
Estimated time is 24 months.

And now onto my BEFORE braces pics.. It was hard to post these. But soon enough they will be a thing of the past!
I will update tomorrow with a pic of my braces :) Thanks for reading everyone!

Hi guys!!!!! I have braces now!!! :):):):)

Everything went really well. It was painless and the assistant who put them on was so nice and told me about everything she was doing. As soon as she was done I went to the mirror to take a look and kept thinking 'this is so weird, this feels so weird, omg I finally have braces, EEKK I can't believe I have braces!'
My fiance came to pick me up after my appt. and I had the biggest smile on my face when I saw him! He kept saying how proud he is of me, and how cute I look. He definetly makes this whole process SO much easier, jeez I love that guy. He leaned in to give me a kiss and it was the weirdest kiss ever. I couldn't pucker my lips over my braces. Guess I am gonna need practice!
After a few hours my front teeth started to hurt so I popped some advil and pain was gone. But if I bumped my teeth together accidently, man oh man that hurt!
I am still struggling on how to 'smile'. Its easy to go into a smile, but when I am done smiling(lips start to relax), my upper lip gets stuck on the top of my braces. I hope no one notices! :?
Eating was difficult.. I felt like a baby trying to eat, or drink anything. I got an orange julius right after and it was hard to pucker my lips over my braces to suck out of the straw. My back molars don't touch together so I have been eating soft foods. But thankfully I'm not starving yet!

I got home from the city at around 9 at night, and I kept popping advil every 4 hours so I didn't really have any pain. Just a lot of pressure... It sure did hurt to brush my front teeth though. I couldn't even believe that my soft tooth brush would hurt my teeth like that.
Was anyone else nervous to sleep that night? I woke up at around 4 with some pain so I popped some more advil, my new bestfriend.

When I woke up this morning my teeth didnt hurt at all. And it is now 10 am and they still don't hurt. It kinda worries me.. I want the pain! I want my teeth to move! Shouldn't I be in pain? I just feel lots of pressure. I guess it does hurt if I touch my front teeth with my tongue but no pain when relaxed.
So here is a pic of my new, expensive smile :) Thanks for reading!

Well done! They look good though. Our teeth are similar at the bottom so interesting to see how yours have been fitted.

I suppose everybody's experiences of pain are different and just keeping popping pain relief when you need it! :D

Hi Helly! Yep, I am not shy about popping some pills to ease the pain!

A huge pain in the ass are the damn wires pokin' out of my bracket and digging into my cheek. Ouuuch! I put the wax on too late and already developed a sore. Oh well.
Teeth are starting to hurt a little. I did manage to eat half a bun at lunch but letting it soften up in my mouth, and then swallowing it with no chewing.

Any set date for your braces? They really aren't that bad at all, I was expecting so much worse!

I had my 4 wisdom teeth out all at once and it wasn't that bad at all. A little sore for a few days and was on a soup diet but healed up fast. I always rinsed my mouth with salt water and listerine.

Hope you get booked soon and all goes well with your extractions, keep me posted!

They are looking good. I am glad you are doing well. For almost the first month I was on a fish diet because it did not take any effort to chew the fish. I hope your pain gets better so you can eat. I will probably be back to your pain on Tuesday when I go for an adjustment. My ortho said he is going to start moving my canines on my lower arch and my molars on the top arch. They already have warned me to take some pain meds before I come in. Yikes!!! :yikes: I am not looking forward to this ortho visit at all.

I have been watching Archwired ever since I was told I would have to have braces for 2-3 years.

I know that it is probably uncomfortable right now, I got my braces Oct 2.

but it gets better.... I forgot today I had them on.

Hi oldguy! I really hope I can forget I am wearing mine in another week but I just can't see it happening. Sores on my cheeks and sore teeth. Ugh. Trying to stay positive and your post really helped. Thank you :)

The first week is the worst, it really is! After that it will get better! It's awful now, but you'll get through it! :) Wait till you see your teeth move, then you know it will all be worth it! (I saw a great change after only a month already!)

My back molar is at such a twist and angle that it causes the wire end to stick out into my cheek. I just let the wire dig for a few days, create a sore, then toughen up. Now even when the wire catches the tissue and digs in, it doesn't hurt at all. It's amazing how well we adapt to these things.

Thanks oktobergoud. I can not wait for a month to pass. I keep staring at my teeth wondering how the hell will they ever look any different. It feels discouraging at times when there is so much pain and annoyance.

I have a business meeting that is 4 hours out of town and those co-workers of mine have yet to see me with braces. I am feeling very self conscious about them seeing me like this. They usually supply lunch in the board room like subs or pizza and I am SO not ready to eat that kinda food. I guess I will be packing a can of soup, yaaaay me!
