BRACES FOR THE OLDER PERSON 50+
Hi there
Am I the oldest person to have braces on here??? I only just found this website sadly, I have had a retainer on my upper teeth for 18 months, which has caused a few problems along the way, my teeth were very crooked, but are looking so good now. I had a tooth extracted and at last enough room in my mouth to pull the teeth into alignment. I hadnt realised tho, that when the braces come off in another 3 weeks, that a permanent wire has to be fitted. I need a filling in my front tooth with the orthodontist says needs doing before the rear wire is put on, Im wondering if this is going to be a problem once its fitted with any future dental work that needs doing, and the hygienist. Also if its uncomfortable like the front wire was to start with???? and if its prone to breaking. Goodness there was me thinking that it would be off and that would be the end of it!!!!! Im pleased with the result but not sure about the rear wire, and a removable retainer doesnt seem to work so well from what I am reading, also after spending a small fortune having this done, I obviously dont want it all going pear shaped on me as I would be most upset.

The oldest person on this message board is age 72, so compared to that you're still a kid!
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

Age 56, getting SARPE & upper braces in about three months, lower jaw surgery a year after that. No, you're not the oldest, although in "real" life, it may seem that way. This site has made all the difference for me!

I'm 65 and nine months in. There are more of us oldtimers out there than you think. Good luck!

I'm now 58 and 10 months in. I think at our age, the option is often between braces or losing teeth. So here we are in braces.
