Re: Inman aligners
I had another check up with my dentist yesterday, he had been on holiday so it was three weeks since my last check. Usually it is fortnightly checks. He was really pleased with the progress, my teeth are moving nicely with visible change and it made me feel great. He showed me my original teeth mold so that I could see and compare the improvement in the mirror. More filing so that they can move more, wasn't painful at all.
Realistically he thinks I will need the full 16 weeks but I am now on week 6 and committed to getting my teeth straight so no turning back. I've been tightening it myself once a week with the key and I can feel it getting tighter but it is not painful at all, just more pressure. Roll on the next month....
88Oscar, I would say my first big movement has been over the last two weeks (wks 4 & 5). I guess it depends on your teeth. I'm waiting for the next big movement but it means my lateral incisor moving sideways out of the way for my front tooth to move back further.
My speech is still slurred but I'm just getting on with it now.
Hang in there everyone!

Re: Inman aligners
Bottom Inman fitted for 3 days now.
Today is the first time I haven't been hyper-aware of the brace.
When putting it in I'm still finding it difficult to get the rear bar behind the teeth over the composite blobs (feels like I'm going to break the Inman each time). Any fitting tips?

Re: Inman aligners
Hi All, it has been a while since my last post.
I have nothing positive to say & some may think then dont speak at all BUT It is good to sometimes get these things of your chest & who better to do that with but fellow aligners
I first had my top alinger fitted beginning of April, treatment finish somewhere in August.
I am now back to wearing my top alinger as of mid October.
My bonded retainer kept coming undone to the point where too much movement had happened. The dentist tried to cover up the problem by filling the gap created with porcelain. After many visits back, he has now decided to correct the movement with the aligner then have a new retainer made.
I was also fitted with a bottom aligner end of August, I wore it for 4 wks only to be told it wasnt working & would have to be sent away to be modified. 5 weeks later! I am again wearing the bottom aligner but without any modifications! No explanation as to why it was gone for 5 wks but I was told that my aligner is not made to move my bottom eye teeth & that I will have to have a different type of appliance made to correct these 2 teeth BUT I have to pay for the additional appliance.
NOW, if I had of been told at the begining that only 4 of my bottom teeth could be straightened for $3200 & I would have to pay extra later down the track to have the final 2 done then chances are I would not have gone ahead with this as one of the eye teeth in question are one of the worst offending teeth that I wanted straightened in the first place.
Not really sure what to do about the situation
Nickel Nicki....your teeth look great! Did you have to wear an additional appliance for your bottom eye (lower canine) teeth?

Vicky, wow that is just the best news, I'm delighted for you. I can't wait to have that on top of the world feeling, smiling from ear to ear
Superseven - you do get less aware of it as times ticks by. Re putting it in, I only have the top IA but this is my method of putting it in .... I put the IA in my mouth and position the front bar over the front two teeth, I then push the back bar back and kind of up so that it fits above the blob. I then use my thumbs to push the sides of the IA into my top molars. I probably don't need to but then I push the back bar once again to check its sitting/fitting above the blob then I adjust the front bar to ensure it is positioned centrally across my front teeth. Hope that helps in some way.
Ozzy - sorry to hear you have had such a bad time with it all. Not sure what to say really, I assume that none of what was promised was put in writing by your dentist. Perhaps talk to another dentist to get their views on what was feasible at the start and now. Obviously you don't want to pay out anymore but it might help get this resolved with your dentist? It doesn't sound good that the bonded retainer kept coming undone very frustrating indeed.

Thaks Susie & Vicky!
I will keep you posted on what happens.
Vicky, I havent had a new appliance made. The plan is to straighten the front four lowers then pay for an additional appliance to straighten the eye teeth! I want to refuse to pay the extra but want the teeth straightened so not sure what to do?
Anyway will update any further progress.
Good luck to everyone with their personal experience

Ozzy that is not fair, at your consultation you would have informed ortho on.what you weren't happy with he then should have recommended a treatment to sort all your woes, not one thing then tell you that your needing something else!that's complete junk!!he should have said sox month smile or something that is fine for eye teeth!!i could check with my ortho n see what he can recommend you do? such a shame!!x
Re: Inman aligners
Hey everyone! Just heading into my fifth week of wearing the IA. I had my first check up appointment last Monday and my dentist said I'm ahead of my predicted treatment time which is odd as I told him I haven't been wearing the IA more than 12 hours a day due to work. He said I had 'youth on my side' which is why the teeth are responding well.
One tooth has moved into place which is nice to see but after being told the IA will straighten the 6 teeth it won't effect my canines much which is really annoying as they're quite prominent so I'll have to see what can be done about them after the treatment.
I won't be seeing my dentist for 6 week now as he thinks I'm on track with no problems. I pretty much forced him to put the composite blob on last week as I'd been wearing the IA to high on my teeth. Really regretting it now as people keep mistaking it for food stuck on my tooth and you can proper see it from the side! What a nightmare.
I've also started using bicarbonate of soda with white vinegar to remove some light stains off my teeth as I'm not sure I'll be able to afford to get them whitened after the treatment! Will let you all know how that pans out.
Just hope this is all worth it!!

Re: Inman aligners
Hi, I'm 11 days in and must say the discomfort is nothing like I was expecting. Like all other posts on here the main problem is speech, which to be fair my dentist did warn me about before I started treatment. I'm so glad I came about this site as it's been so informative.

Hi Vicky, yes thank you its going really well and I'm seeing lots of movement now I'm on week 6. When I first joined this forum you were the first person to reply to me and were about the same point as I am now I think, its really spurred me on so thank you.
Ozzy, I hope it all gets sorted swiftly for you.
Kerry thats amazing you are ahead of your predicted time, you must be on the home straight now then
Hi Turnbulls, hopefully the discomfort will wear off very soon. I struggled in my first week in particular with headaches and getting used to it in. But it did get better as the days/weeks have gone by. It has never been painful but just aggravating as it feels so huge. My speech has improved but I don't think it will get much better now, I do have the IA with the expander incorporated so it makes speech particularly challenging! Having paid the money up front there is no turning back which has kept me spurred on to wear it as much as I can.

Re: Inman aligners
I'm on exactly week 5 out of a predicted 10 weeks. My front 2 teeth have moved but they still have to move a little bit more, but my lateral incisor doesn't seems to have moved at all.
I've had 2 appointments with my ortho, my first appointed he filed in between my teeth and my second appointment he tightened my IA.
Still feel worried about the lack of movement in my lateral incisor.

Re: Inman aligners
Hi Susiesue11, I didn't phrase my post very well sorry, I meant I am pleased the discomfort is not as bad as I was expecting. The tenderness seems to have past now which is nice being able to bite again with my front teeth. I've paid £2000 for my top arch which is a lot of money, but I've wanted straight teeth for so long (I'm 48 years old) I'm giving it my all and intend to carry on wearing my aligner for 20-21hrs each day to hopefully speed things up. My Dentist expects it will take 4 months so fingers crossed!!
