Ortho & Surgeon Disagree?

Ortho & Surgeon Disagree?
Has anyone had a similar experience? The surgeon my ortho referred me to says I need both upper and lower jaw surgery, while my ortho says he believes only upper is necessary. Does it have to come down to ME making the decision, or should they be working this out between them before we move any further toward a surgery date?

Expander installed: 7/8/08

Re: Ortho & Surgeon Disagree?
well, it's a conflict since your surgeon and ortho will be working together as part of your treatment plan and post-operative care. get the details why your ortho says no on the lower jaw, and pass it on the surgeon, or do it the other way.
tough situation.

Re: Ortho & Surgeon Disagree?
Yes, I've had this on the NHS
The Orthognathic surgeon (a surgeon trained in surgery of the head and face) said I needed a Bi-max.
The Orthodontist (a dentist who moves teeth about for a living) said there is nothing wrong.
The result: No treatment, orthodontist trumps surgeon.
Go figure
It's a bit like a plasterer controlling a builder in my opinion.
