I believe some peoples teeth can shift a tiny bit quite quickly (someone on youtube had a space open up the same day but they started out with spaces in their teeth so might be why) and others not at all. But I would think that because the impressions for the retainers are taken right after the braces and glue removal if anything moves at all in that week the retainer will help put everything back to how your teeth were right after the deband.

I look forward to reading how your debracing appointment goes :D
Thanks :) Hmm, I sorta hope that my teeth close more with them off. I didn't have spaces before braces.. so there's hope in what you say is true .. then maybe those top spaces will go away finally!

I will definitely let you know how the debanding goes :) A bit scared, but hopefully it's not too bad.

Braces are OFF!!! I'm soooooo happy!!!!

The process wasn't too bad. Since my top braces were ceramic, they took off my two powerchains and the wire first. So, my ortho snapped them off.. most of it was fine. The ceramics pretty much crumbled. But, man.. the bottom ones, some of those didn't want to come off. A few hurt, it was just odd to have the ligs and the wire still in while she was doing it. The part that bothered me the most was the grinding the glue off. It wasn't really all that bad, but a few times, the air got to my sensitive teeth. So, she stopped and gave me a break. I wasn't expecting so much dust, there was quite a bit. The assistant (those who usually put my wires in/out and the ligs) did most of the grinding the glue off and such. After that, I had molds done -- which I didn't mind at all. The tough part was getting them out. After that, they scanned my teeth/mouth for my final scans and took pictures.

I can't believe how good my teeth feel though, I was slightly worried that my teeth would look horrible.. but they looked the same before I got braces. I'll probably look into whitening them next year or try the crest strips. Flossing will be so much easier!!

I thought about choosing the glow in the dark for the retainers, but I was boring and got pink (more skin colored) and blue. I get those next Wed. So, until them.. I'm going to live it up :)

Thanks :) How much longer do you have? It's so nice! You'll love it. Eating is so much more enjoyable (at least for me it is, not having to deal bread or chips mashed in between brackets is lovely)!

I'll try and post a picture after the ortho uploads it to her site. It's so odd though, biting down still feels like I have braces, still doesn't quite feel natural! But, I'm glad I don't have to deal with the elastics anymore... and another odd thing, smiling is a lot easier too :)

So exciting! I bet you're smiling nonstop too!

My estimate is 24 months, which means I should be looking at about 6 more months (fingers crossed!)

Very true, I definitely smile more :) Not to say that I avoided smiling before.. just now, it's easier/feels more natural.

Not too much longer!! Maybe you'll get them off early :) Can't wait to hear about your debanding story!

So, I got my retainers.. they're not so bad.. except that they taste like CRAP! A bit like glue at the moment.. it's gross. The ortho had to shave a bit down, I couldn't bite at all. I still can't bite all the way down, but she stated that's good since it will prevent the deep bite. I can talk, but I have a bit of a lisp.. :/ Hopefully that goes away soon. No real issues with gagging though...

thank you :) still pretty happy about it.. and the retainers have got a lot better. They're pretty comfortable.. the hard part is still talking. It's better, but not perfect. The only drawback is that I snack a lot, so I do tend to take them out plenty throughout the day..
